Ya its kinda a dream for people to think a guy who spent most of his career with one, then signs a 3 year deal with only his 2nd team is gonna agree to relocate his family to a 3rd team via agreeing to a trade to a crapoy team.
Wake up people. - Fakepartofme
that's not the "scheme". He'd be relocating to wherever the hell he wants and hanging up his skates - assuming that's what he wanted in the first place (which none of know).
But Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Hossa, ..and eventually Luongo and a few others all rode a similar train. |

The dream is that the Sharks would take him back.
I'm doing a quick peek at their cap room - nothing this year. But they do have a lot coming off the boards for next year - Pavelski, Thornton, Karlsson. That's $17.5 million.
If you let one of those guys walk, you probably have enough room to take back Marleau - which is a bit of a no-brainer if you do it on July 2nd. - Atomic Wedgie
I'm not buying the Wedgie version of the scheme b/c I think the Sharks will want that cap space. The theory I tossed out when he signed this contract was that the 3rd year was a red herring - a distraction. The real contract was always 17.5 over 2 years. Marleau gets paid a lot of cash but has to agree to waive his NMC next summer and the Leafs get to take a stab at moving his 3rd year cap hit to the 'Yotes for a draft pick on July 2nd. PM retires in July (assuming that was always his plan) and the Leafs get the cap space and the Yotes get a pick/prospect.
Everybody's happy ...except for that EMO 'nucks fan. |

Marleau is still playing well - he'll likely want to add at least 1 year after his current contract runs out. Not going to retire soon. |

For the record, the Wedgie version of the scheme is mutual termination of contract on July 2nd - which saves us flipping the Coyotes a 2nd round draft pick.
Getting Marleau to retire may sound like a pipe dream now, but after the Leafs win the Stanley Cup in June, it will be a lot easier. |

And punch some faces when teams get into AM or MM's grilles.
Although he'll be demanding the same contract as WN this coming summer. And Father Tkachuk had some contractual disputes over his time as well (signed an offer sheet).

Nylander is an over-rated crybaby.
A greedy P.O.S.
A soft, floaty, selfish piece of human garbage who can go frank himself for all I care.
Unless he signs a reasonable contract and remains with the Leafs.
Then he's fantastic, baaaaay-beeeeeeeee! |

IIRC, he held out one year (back when you could do that under the CBA.
As a result, the local fans (I think it was when he was with St. Louis) nicknamed him GSP - short for Gravy-Sucking Pig.
