I wonder if VAN would explore a Maatta/Virtanen based trade.

Virtanen is finally showing off the potential they saw in him when they drafted him. They’re also about to get Edler back as well as Boeser and Baertschi. Others are nearing return as well including Beagle sometime in December. I wouldn’t expect any moves from Vancouver until they get fully healthy and really see what they have

We also have Martin. Vigneault would be my pick. He’s always been a systems coach and I think that’s what our guys need rn

That would be awesome but not sure Vancouver will bite on that.

It's happened twice in the Sid Geno era, seems to be our thing.

How can anyone say spring has the skill set? He still hasn’t accidentally scored a goal in how many games? Reaves has 4, Martin has 4. Those were all accidents according to you all right? Spring sucks, let’s just face it and move on.

Here's the thing about this column... JJ hasn't been good obviously, and Murray has been worse. The bigger culprits in these last two games don't even get a single word mentioned about them. Geno and Kessel were plain awful defensively last night. Geno with another selfish penalty while Kessel looked comical on the defensive side of the puck. I mean, I expect JJ to commonly make mistakes, but I can't accept the crap effort from Geno and Kessel last night. DK's site has nice video layout of Kessels defensive/less work last night. Phil was actually great the first couple of weeks in this department and I don't understand what's changed.

That's the thing why flame on them when most of the season they have been good? I think they are starting to get frustrated, there's zero help from the bottom lines and like what has been said already the pinching needs to be cut back. Maatta shouldn't be pinching ever because he's about as fast as molasses in January.

I agree that Rutherford deserves some blame but I’m not going to think for a second that the coaches aren’t involved in personnel decisions. Remember that video of the Bruins talking about Tyler Seguin? It was a group discussion and they were making group decisions.

For all we know, Sullivan is just as much to blame for bringing in JJ and Cullen. Remember how much Sullivan was hyping up JJ’s game and how good of a fit he was going to be? Hell, maybe he was the driving factor. Who knows. Same with Niemi last year, who’s to say our goalie coach didn’t have a large say in that discussion?

I think one thing we can be certain of though is lineup decisions and deployment and it sounds like most of us agree that Sullivan has been extremely poor in this area. I completely agree that this reminds me of the Bylsma era.

Anyone else agree? Disagree?

Yeah man hes making some bone headed coaching decisions, no doubt. The handling of Sprong, usage of Cullen/ JJ, breaking up of DoumoTang are the main things that have irratated me but this season there's been alot of things.

What concerns me most about the losing is that there's been about a handful of games I believe they truly deserved to win, but didn't. If they did they're 2nd or 3rd in division and personally, I can only speak for myself, I don't think I would be questioning everything near as much...such as Sully.

I love Vitanen, and don’t like Maatta but I dunno if Vitanen is worth Maatta. It’s Benning though so can probably get a 2nd thrown in for saying hi.

Vancouver trades for Maatta everyday of the week though, they have no puck moving defencemen.

If it were even possible, the Pens would probably have to add, but just as a base I think it would be interesting.

Maatta + Sprong or Simon?

I've said it on a blog a couple days ago, and I'll say it again.. I'd love to get Brett Pesce from the Canes. Basically a right handed Dumoulin. Its been rumoured he's part of the Canes Nylander offer, so i think we'd have to wait for that to unfold before anything could be done with in regards to him.

Way back in the day I used to propose Pouliot for Virtanen and it was a fair trade... things have changed a bit eh?

Silver lining: As of right now, the pens have a realistic chance to draft Jack Hughes. I mean, that solves the 3rd C issue

Likely cost Guentzel... which leaves a big hole in the forward group for sure.. maybe follow that up with Mattaa for a forward. Its panic time, the window looks to be closing in a hurry. Not sure anything fixes the slide at this point.

I don't think Guentzel is enough. Nylander? Yes. Not only is Pesce a young developing RD, but he's also cost controlled until he's 30.

Guentzel wouldn't be enough especially when you consider he's probably doing to command over $5M year which is more than Pesce makes. Getting a young RD like him being cost-controlled is unicorn status. The Canes will need more.

Edged out my opponent 485.5 to 467.5

This was with only having one goalie this week since Vas went down and two other players missing one game.

Maatta never really matured from being soft and slow. The other "good" parts of his game just don't offset that
