TK + prospect + pick is the deal that was discussed.
Maybe if you are exactly 1 player away that deal makes sense as you mentioned but even then I dunno..
Just not a fan of giving up that much for a 34 year old player. - opeth_pa
only way the price on Carter comes down is if LA decides to restock and cut payroll, at 6-12-1 and if they continue the same winning % they could be seller by the end of December. |

Is Carter on the block? I still like Carter and I believe he still has value but I don’t think we need him. |

Considering I started the Carter discussion other people were saying that's what it would take. Carter is 34, and has had some significant injuries lately. While he is still a valuable player, he is nearing the end of his career and production. He is NOT a rental playing going to a team that is ready to win "This Year". Not with the length of contract left on him. He's also not going to a rebuild team. His market is a team that is just entering their "window" Like the flyers and Florida and Winnipeg. There is also an expansion draft coming soon that has to be considered.
That being said, whether LA is looking to rebuild or retool, getting a decent prospect and a high pick is good value for a 34 Y/O with a high long contract.
IMO this move doesn't hurt the Flyers future. Carter wont be taking anyone's spot, he can play center and wing so if Rubtsov or Frost come in at center and push Carter out he can move to wing. It just makes this team better, and at this point I'm willing to give up Voroboyov and a 1st to see them make a deep playoff run.

I would be quite angry if they traded Konecny, a prospect and a draft pick for Carter - nastyflyergirl
Especially when the Flyers traded Carter, at his peak, they got a 1st, young roster player and a 3rd. Somehow Carter costs more now for someone who is 33 and has had injury issues.
Unless that prospect is Laberge and a 4th...then it makes sense. |

It's been mentioned on Sirius that if they don't right the ship LA could unload Carter, Quick and Toffoli. There was even some conjecture about Doughty asking to be dealt if it becomes a tear down. |

No it's not tomato, tomatoe. It's not even close to that. The things that really need to change are not going to automatically change with a new coach. - MJL
Perhaps a coaching change wakes the players up and they begin to focus more and work harder. FFS, I can’t imagine it could get any worse. There is no way to reasonably defend Lappy any more, it’s just not working. |

Trying to think, when was the last time a team won with a coach not considered one of the best in the league. Maybe Pittsburgh with Bylsma and Sullivan?
Coaches don't mean much in sports anyway. |

While there is no doubt that adding a player like Carter would make the Flyers a better team right now, I think you're misreading the Flyers market position. The Flyers are still 2-3 years away from seriously contending. It is not the right time to add a player like Carter in my opinion and they have no business making a deal like that. When the Flyers are ready, Carter is 2-3 years older.

Rather look into Quick over Carter. If you end up bumping Coots to the 3rd then it makes more sense to just trade him for a true 3C and a pick. |

Being considered one of the best in the league sometimes comes after winning. How many teams haven't won while having one of the best coaches in the league? The best coaches in the league eventually get fired. |

Last year with Caps. Have you seen the Islanders this year? Obviously has been considered one of the best coaches in the league for years now. |

I think a large part of the Flyers issue on the PK is mental for the players. I think a coaching change and new voice could help with that and reset things.
I think it's easy to defend the coaches and Lappariere. That doesn't change that coaching is a results oriented business.
