Did I mention I want a new coaching staff this year...

New coaching staff more important than goaltending..yes I said it.

- Glak18

Starting with the coach who controls the PK. That should have been taken care of two seasons ago. 4 years of being ranked at the bottom would get any coach fired in any sport. Or at least it should.

For the record, I always enjoy watching Flyers-Lightning games. These two teams have a long sordid history together that goes back to the Bolts' earliest days in the league. Today's game should be interesting, given that both teams are dressing less-than-ideal goaltenders. This could be another 10+ goal barn burner.

True story :

My 10-yo grandson participated in the Great American Teach-In at his school yesterday. A Lightning hockey player was there to give a talk and take answers from the kids.

My grandson Ben asks the following question :

"Have you heard of the Flyer's new mascot, Gritty?"

The Lightning player laughed and said "Yes, but I haven't met him yet."

I am still trying to find out exactly which player it was because Ben can't recall his name.

I had a good laugh from that. The kid already knows his Gritty.

- GalacticStone

Hockey players are some of the classiest athletes in the world. It’s awsome for young kids to get to be around these guys in that type of setting. The whole Gritty thing has been pretty cool.

As far as your bolts....they are a really solid team that has drafted very well. Flyers need to show up or this could be a one sided shoot out.

I hope Hextall is at least calling Edmonton about Puljujarvi, the size and speed would be so helpful even if he doesn't live up to draft expectations.

Not sure what it would take, but please try.

Edmonton GM and said last week, that they aren’t interested in moving him....he needs to improve in some areas....but he’s going no where.....as a winger...as acenter ....or as a goalie...

1. I don't know why wveryone is panicking after the devils game. The way they played is not cause for alarm. They were far superior in every facet of the game except maybe puck luck. Earlier in the year was different because they were playing poorly and not getting results. If they play like they did against the devs every day, they will win those games 9/10

- bulet13

It's not just that one game. I think people are getting frustrated with how the team is performing under multiple seasons.

My feeling is it doesn't matter if you put Bob or Carey Price in the pipes, there are big problems on defense. But the goaltending does need to be addressed for next season. It is valid criticism on Hextall for going with a known injury plagued goalie in Neuvirth and Elliott has been a 1b type goalie.

JVR is awesome but I don't think a winger was our pressing need. This defense is very green and with the regression of Amac (and somewhat Provorov) it's looking thin. 7m could've brought in a good defensemen.

Yeah I know it's an Eklund blog, read at own risk, but Edmonton not listening to offers for Puljujarvi or going no where...uh that is not true. Puljujarvi has been on the block since last year.

If Chiarelli said "He is going no where" then he will be traded, probably too late.

2. Hakstol has shown a willingness to change his lineups this year and bench veterans during games when he thinks they aren't playing well. Gotta give him some credit there

3. The flyers are a good 5 on 5 team. Just gotta fix the PP and honestly we could easily be a top 8 team. PK is gonna take a systemic and maybe player overhaul so don't waste your breath

4. There are 60+ games left. Relax

5. Moose getting hurt right now is terrible. He was playing the best stretch of hockey he had in orange and black. Hopefully the injury isn't bad and he comes back and plays like he was before

That last paragraph is hindsight and you know it.

No reason to think going into this season that Provy would struggle.

No panic here, I have just calmly concluded the coaching staff is not right for this organization. So do you do it now or inevitably do it next year or the following year where it will take time to get everything organized?

GMs say stuff like that all the time. Then, a couple days later, they trade the guy.

It wasn't hindsight, I think this team's defense was questionable before the season even started.

Well if you need to sign him....it’s probably 7 years....maybe he bites a 5....will have to see what the goaltending market looks like....your probably hoping he can give you 4 great years...to get you to the Hart era. From what Hextall has done up till now I’m thinking he’s hoping Hart is ready sooner.

It would be quite a change in the direction to sign Bob.

- landros 2

I’m in favour of Bob. There is nothing wrong with bringing Hart along slowly and by all accounts it seems what he may need.

If eventually you need to make a decision between them, say like similar to Halak and Price than by all means.

Assuming Bob would come back. If he hits FA, quite a few clubs will want him and rightfully so.
