Granted, they lost in a shoot out to the worst team in the league, but I'm seeing some things that might build hope. It's good to have Forsling back. Maybe Murphy can improve the blue line more. Joki will click with the new approach soon enough. I like Saad with Kane and Toews, and Schmaltz away from them. I still don't really understand the point of playing Kunitz. Overall, the effort for the new coach seems to generally be there, that's a plus.

pretty decent game...

both teams had plenty of decent chances
both goalies were excellent
hawks pp continues to be kane on the half board and whole lotta hope
kings were very solid defensively clogging the house and blocking shots..
hawks needed craw to save their ass again with unforced errors and guys wide open in front...

Keep the tank going, but did anyone else notice that 2 saves by Peterson were by his jersey (puck between the body and arm). I didn't think goalies were allowed to wear oversized jerseys.

I think your usual tinfoil antennae has caught something - I did notice that - especially on Kane in the SO.

88 with 24 min TOI...having him on the PP for the full 2 and double shifting periodically ain't working...

Jack Hughes is sexy in this pic.
Bowman is confusing everyone though. He's looking at the perfect choice, but will actually select the woman in white over draft lottery's right shoulder, blurred in the background.

Crawford just got abused by two super skilled guys. God dam does Kovy have a great shot and Kopitar is silky smooth.
- EnzoD

Kopitar might be silky smooth, but Kane and Keith are real smooth.

Someone explain to me why the Hawks dont even TRY to play low, below the goal line, on the PP.
Too much perimeter passing.

- tompo1015

The set-up of the PP is awful. Schmaltz in the high slot is a waste of time. Just clogs up the ice. Need Toews at right post AND someone to screen the goalie like Anisimov.

IMO Cat should be in Seabs spot on the PP.
- EnzoD

Depends on set-up of the PP. I dislike the high slot player as clogs up the centre of ice but if you are going to have one it should be Cat not Schmaltz.

Yuki doesn’t even try to shoot. If change set-up should be Seabs at top, Toews right post, Screener like Anisimov in front, with Cat backdoor as you say.

Crapola, 1-0 Toffoli ... Gustafsson coughed it up again then decided to fall to make sure he was entirely out of the play ... again. This one in.

There ... fixed now.

- steve-hist-sdc

The TV coverage has 5 people analysing the plays, 6 if you include Doyle, and NOBODY says WTF was Gus doing that far up the ice, out of position. Gus clearly caused that goal, although Keith again deflected it. Break-in should never have happened.

Schmaltz got some big Corsi for in OT. What was that shift, a minute and a half of keep away...
- Return of the Roar

Shows what a misleading stat Corsi can be as Schmaltz did not accomplish anything.

Kovy and Kopitar didn’t abuse Crawford. I have been saying, and so have others, that Crawford is still feeling symptoms. Don’t notice it all of the time. Straight shots he will track. When he has to track players or pucks, either side to side, or in and out he loses mobility and his net. When Crow made the save on Carter, on a break-in, earlier in the game, he was actually off his angle.

When Crow first returned he seemed to be playing well but then there was a break-away where he lost mobility and left much of the net open, for an easy goal. I was concerned.

In shoot-outs Crow is normally a beast but he did not move well or track the player and puck well on either shot. Kovy scored very easily as Crow gave him lots of net to shoot at. Kopitar also scored very easily as Crow seemed totally overmatched and easily deeked. In the past Crow would play possessed in the shoot-outs.

It is a testament to Crow that even with problems he tries to persevere. Compare Crow to Petersen in the shoot-out. Petersen is very active, mobile and not at all overmatched while Crow is the opposite.

Love how Schmaltz is the guy/first choice in the high slot, and not a shooter like Debricat.

Same as how Schmaltz is the guy first put with Toews and Kane, not ADB

Then the first OT game they lost, ADB wasnt even one of the first four skaters in OT, and I forget if he even got a shift in OT last night (I know he did, but why is he, maybe the best release on the team/best goal scorer last year...pushed down more for Golden Boy?)

Now everyone can see how absolutely brutal Gustafson is, yet hes told to "play free and loose" (which translates to, keep making mistakes...we wont bench you!) Now that's what Seabrook had to play with the when paired with him. Thats why Seabs look lost when forced to be with him, covering for his idiot plays.

JC is now Stan/McD/Scotty/Barry Smith's puppet

Or - maybe - JC is - on his own dime - trying things to figure out what works and what doesn’t.

Just like when Q conspired with his players to give up 33 shots in a period -- just to get back at Stan and McD!

Otherwise Crow looked extremely amatuerish in the OT. Petersen faced Toews and Kane and didn’t. If Crow is actually completely on his game and looked that bad that is not a good result.

Only against Chicago. Bettman allows other teams to cheat against the Blackhaws because Bettman hates Chicago.

A think the HAWKS got caught looking past LA ,had strong 3rd just could not beat good young goalie . Schmaltz shooting a lot more last night ,maybe he got the memo .
Really like the new coach think things will really fall in place as the players get use to the system .Lot of Q drilled into them ,will take some time it still early ..
