If they're attempting to have "4 scoring lines", that's the only way this roster makes sense. I agree....Brass needs to suck it up and play 3C. Plus....there's a possibility Cullen get's pushed to the press box.

Not holding my breath on that one.

I disagree. It’s not about where he’s slotted it’s more about QoT imo.

My thinking is that he is a better center than winger hands down and that at 4C the quality of opponent would probably drop.

Sprong must have done something really awful or have a really bad atittude because he has to sit for a guy that has 0 points in what, 40 NHL games?

Sprongs best shift was playing with Malkin where he got an assist for a nice play, I dont understand why we don't give him good teammates for once. Do they think he sucks so much they are afraid of giving him any icetime at all so his value doesnt go lower? Idk, some of those decisions are very strange and reminds me of the end of Bylsma era.

Yup.

Let the kid have an extended look and solid chance in the top 6. Good chance he gets some points and ups his value if they dont plan on keeping him.

I don't know if anybody caught the quick camera on Rutherford last night in the waning minutes of the game. He looked like a family member died. Obviously hard to read too much into an expression, but this was a man that will be making more moves soon.

Rust was another guy who I thought played well last night. No results, but he's been pretty damn good since JR made those comments. I hope he stays.

Wow... You guys don't want to know what Mackey just said on the radio.

Whispers that Crosby might have a herniated disc in his neck. Total speculation of course. Crosby skated today however, but they dropped curtains or something while he was on the ice so nobody could see him skate. I guess they do this curtain thing during the playoffs when they practice.

Ugh....

I think he has to. They'd be giving up so much speed with both he and Hags gone

Also from Mackey

Brassard is switching sweaters. Looks like he's going to rejoin the team for practice.

Well that would certainly be more time than the DTD that was announced and a week that Sullivan said.

Remember the 2nd big concussion that resulted in Crosby missing a load of time.....that wasn't actually a concussion, it was his neck?

Since Friedman mentioned PIT and ANA having discussions...some ideas I've seen floating around the interwebs...

Sprong for Ritchie
Maatta for Montour
Maatta+ for Manson
Rust for Cogliano

Thoughts?

My vote would be for one of the 2 RH D-men there.

First 3 are very ambitious.

Last one is poor asset management by PIT

I would do Horn for Manson if Maatta were able to be moved for a mid-tier winger.

He’s afraid to play the younger guys who he didn’t coach in WB/S.

When is Riley Sheahan going to do anything at all?

Penguins yellow jerseys they debuted last night looked great.

Good blog Ryan. I agree with all of it especially the above points.

It is, but the Ducks’ offense is anemic right now, so it may be an ideal time. Pens could add in a pick/prospect.

Well yeah ANA has been slammed with injuries but I think we all know that if Hornqvist is the answer, you are asking the wrong question.

Ha, very true. JR has been known to fleece though. I’m just being overly opportunistic.

I realize with Crosby out it's not an opportune time to think this way but what would the approximate value of Brassard? I mean the guy has been hurt a lot (not his fault) and complains about playing the position we acquired him to play...if they could move him for either a youngish winger or a 3-4 D that can skate, likely adding to him I think it should be looked into. He's not resigning here and I don't feel he's the tipping point to a cup this season (if that's even reasonable to think).

Moveable parts at this point are:
1. Sprong (this it's poor asset management to move him - HCMS needs to check his ego)
2. Rust (hopefully not moving)
3. JO (can't imagine a move with him providing a benefit sufficient for the hole it would leave)
4. Maatta (see 3 above)
5. Brassard ??

It sounds like Brassard is just about ready. Should be a GTD for tomorrow. If I'm Rutherford, I'd wait a few weeks to see how this Crosby injury plays out. If Crosby misses substantial time, any moves he makes is futile.
