Even if he did, it was still the right move to make at the time. No if, ands or buts.

Fluery would be getting killed right now as well. I don't think it would look as bad, but it would still be bad.

Oh I agree. Problem with the Pens is that GMJR took their identity they had in from the 1st cup and flushed it down the toilet. Tried building some different type of team. They got away from the speed and transition game because of the 2nd cup. The rest of the NHL started constructing their team more like the first cup, and GMJR opted to get worse. It's like they lucked their way to the 2nd cup and they're like "yeah THAT is the sustainable type of roster we're looking for."

Making moves right now is part to send a message to this team that they need to wake the (frank) up and get that hunger back.

YOU DON'T move a #1 Dman unless you have another #1 coming back the other way. Not to mention you have a #1 dman below market value.

Do you move Murray? The better questions are these:

-What do you think you're going to get for Murray?

-Do you think DeSmith is ready to be a starting goalie? Jarry?

-Do you make another move for another goalie? That's maybe the hardest trade you can attempt to make.

Dude just doesn't actually know what a number 1 defenseman is lol

Maybe it is time to think of trading some top players for a few solid players. My friend who is a Nashville fan said maybe we should try to Ship off Guetzel since he is young and has a lot of value and really hasn't been playing extremely well (he will be getting an increase in pay). Maybe he could land us a few solid players in a trade. Or heck maybe it is time to shop a bunch to see what they can get. I think they need to sit Cullen and Sheahan and play Sprong and Grant. Grant and Sprong have shown glimpses that they could help push the offense. We may need a whole new retooling of our D. Or even switching the strategy to have our D not play as aggressive. They are getting caught up ice and it has killed us the last few games and its embarrassing to watch.

On a positive note... I think Sprong actually looked like he skated without leg irons. I also liked Pearson's game. I think that trade might pay off after a while.

Very disappointed with Malkin and Kessel. Their effort these last couple of games has been half assed at best. We needed Geno Machino and got Geno Marshmallow.

Yeah, the broke what was fixed. I'm not saying they should have kept Daley, but Hunwick was a complete departure from him. They starting re-making a Bylsma type team.

Yeah I kinda feel as though we extended him way too early this season. At the very least see how the team finishes before you extend JR.

I do agree Sprong looked good. I think Malkin has looked pretty bad during most of our losses.

They extended JR before he started the surgery.....which has only just begun. It's the kind of thing you do when moving popular players. I'm not really worried about his contract because he can always be "promoted" to some meaningless figurehead position.

While I honk the Pearson/hagelin trade was wise from an asset mgmt standpoint and for a shakeup...I think we have too many vanilla/mediocre players at this point.

I'm a big fan of every guy on the team has at least one area where he excels/elite. You want speed, you got Haggy. You want net front, you got Horny. Heck.. If you're gonna have a fighter, let it be Reaves.

But now I feel like everyone is just mediocre. If Pearson is a 15 goal scorer...that's a bad use of $3.5M...because he has no unique skill.

With all the reclamation projects, we have too many guys that are just ok...

Also....why is GMJR gung how about reclamation projects via trade (Daley, oleksiak, Pearson, Schultz, sheahan, etc) but unwilling to take the gamble on 'free' assets like Duclair?

If tomorrow wasn't Sunday I'd say Rutherford would make a trade tomorrow

Pearson doesn't look very noticeable. Actually he's not that good on board battles and I saw him missing a few passes too. Work work work, no other way around it

Yeah, obviously I'd give him some time to really judge but he looks like Spaling/Sutter so far ....just kind of there.

This team has no identity. They aren't fast. They are soft as poo. They don't have much skill (the current lineup, anyway). They have no chip n chase / cycle game. Their defensive zone coverage is atrocious.

We have these early season panics seemingly every year but this just feels..different . I still believe it's fixable but...Ugh, frustrating.

Yohe proclaims that GMJR loves Maatta but he definitely seems like the logical trade candidate. I truly have zero idea what his value is.

A 27-28 year old top 6 forward maybe? Or I could see a swap with another young player.

Absolutely. Very vanilla so far. Let's wait for a few games before we judge him any further.

How far has Saad's value dropped? Honestly, with contracts factored in I feel like their values are pretty close.

Pearson will be fine. He's better defensively than people give him credit for, and he can fire the puck. Plus, although we haven't seen it yet, he will create space to shoot. He's just getting comfortable

I don't think that Duclair wanted to come here. He had no guaranteed playing time.

If maata is moved we need a dman back, unless they move Murray also and hand the reigns to Jarry (which I'm hoping for. Honestly, I can see us flipping Sprong for someone like Puljujarvi, Maata for Manson, and Murray for a rental forward and maybe a prospect

I'd live the following lineuo until then though.

Guentzel, Sid, ZAR
Pearson, Geno, Hornqvist
Simon, Brassard, Phil
Rust, Blueger, Sprong
(Screw sheahan and Cullen)

Johnson, Letang
Dumo, Maata
Oleksiak, Ruhwedel

I will not correct my gramatical errors lol

I am hoping we land Nikita Zadorov. I actually like what he brings to Colorado. I think JR will make a trade. This team just looks bad.

Trade Pieces in general:

Sheahan, Maatta, Oleksiak, Sprong (even though I feel last night he played well), Rust (if they can get someone back who brings more skill), Guentzel (if they want to make a big shake up or go after someone like Nylander I could see Guentzel being that trade piece).
