Flyers took all their lumps of bad luck at once. Like woofing down those brussel sprouts so that on Saturday they get dessert. |

They wont miss. Like I said last month the Flyers are streaky. They won 6 straight before losing 2. They are going to get hotter than that. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Not without Elliott and groins are troublesome enough to linger through a season |

If you cant count on your goalie to play more than 3 games, he isnt a starting goalie. Injuries happen its unavoidable. Neuvirth got injured in practice, Vaslievsky got injured in practice. It is bad luck that all it is. Elliot played more that 3 games many times last year with no issues. He has done so his entire career. Pickard is not a good goalie and we are not going to win many games with him in net. Elliot could have just played yesterday for the first time in 3 games and that injury still would have happened. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Elliott really isn't a classic starting goalie though. He has never even in his younger days, been a guy who starts 60 or so games a year. He is a guy that can function well as the 1A guy in a tandem. Optimal use for Elliott is for him to start 47-52 games. This means you better have a proven, reliable NHL goalie who can capably start the other 30-35 games. This is where Hextall (frank)ed up. I don't blame Hak, he's paid to win games, and his job is on the line. Elliot right now, is likely the only goalie he has any confidence in.
This is 100% on Ron Hextall. I'm not calling for his head, but I damn well am calling for him to do something about it.

People, everything is okay. Despite the inconsistent play, they're still only 1 point out of 3rd in the Metro. They didn't play a horrible game last night despite the shutout. Its still a loss and a game they should've won in my opinion but let's not panic. Elliott getting hurt sucks but it's not the coaches fault. Everything can't be the coaches fault. - MJL
This is the first thing once really called out Hakstol on. He handled the goalies wrong for this stretch. |

Simmonds and Jake are infuriating. They both can be better but seem to be stuck this year at their level of play - dragonoffrost
I don't see it. Other than Voracek's defensive lapses, he's been fine. Simmonds is strong on his skates, knocking people off of pucks and getting some chances. He's not been on the first unit PP, which I think is a mistake, so that changes how he is viewed. He also doesn't have a center that can get him the puck consistently. Before last night, the Flyers have outscored the opposition 24-7 in 5 on 5 play in the previous 7 games. The Flyers are a strong 5 on 5 team. They just need to get the special teams better.

That's just it with Jake he's been called out on the defensive lapses and doesn't fix them for what 5 years?
Yes this team has been better at 5v5 but then to have the power play to dry. It's one step forward one step back. |

I understand what your saying, with the Lightning coming up tomorrow, last night woudl've been a good game to play Pickard. Still can't blame the coach for the injury. It's November. Can't blame overplaying him for the injury.

I tend to agree. I still see them making the playoffs. I just think they do need to do something. Even winning something just doesn't look right. I can't exactly put a pin on it but something when i watch the game just doesn't look right.
Simmonds started out strong. Is it time to try and move him as i don't see him on the 1st PP anymore so that could effect value moving forward. If you don't plan to sign him how about making a good hockey trade.
I think there needs to be a change somewhere. |

The change needs to occur on the ice. Play more consistent hockey, period to period. Improve the special teams.

I think if healthy, they are a playoff team. However, if Elliott is out longterm and Neuvirth is Neuvirth, they are not making the playoffs without making a deal to acquire a goalie. Pickard/Lyon is not going to get it done. |

Slow starts to seasons: Been happening for years
Slow starts to games: Been happening for years
Not showing any emotion or sense of urgency until trailing in the 3rd: Been happening for years.
The above is not on Ron Hextall or the coaches, it's squarely on the players, and mostly on the leadership group consisting of Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds. It's time to deal one of the 3 and Simmonds is the logical one to go.

You can only say this so much. I think we all know it needs to change on the ice.
But why can't I make a change and help it along. Not all changes are bad. |

I disagree. The time is not right for a trade in my opinion. That's panicking.

Not all changes are good. The PP will come around. They're playing solid hockey at 5 on 5. I won't hold my breath for the PK.

It would have been panicking to trade one of them in season a few years ago. It's just delaying the inevitable at this point.
I guess you'll get better value for Simmonds at the deadline. Just have to hope he doesn't get hurt between now and then. |

They aren't that far away. The Flyers could find themselves in a solid playoff spot come the deadline. Then what will they do?

Ready for this...........Right now I would trade Simmonds straight up for Brayden Schenn.
Giroux - Couturier - Konecny
Lindblom - Patrick - Voracek
JvR - Schenn - Laughton
Would that top 9 be so bad.

Call me crazy, but I was at the game last night and I thought they played well for the 2 periods I stayed. They hit 4 posts, 2 in succession, in the first 16 minutes. They had the PPG disallowed (I still haven't seen the contact; if it was there, it had no effect on the goal) and Elliott made a number of high-quality saves, especially on the cross-ice pass and the subsequent diving save in the second. Didn't see the third.
Right now, they're not playing poorly per se, but something's just off. I don't know if they're trying to make the perfect play/shot or don't have faith in their team/coach, or what, but there's just something missing right now. |

With what goalie? With what PK?
This team has won exactly one playoff series with Simmonds in the lineup. What ever will they do without him? |

Ha that would be something.
I dont think Simmonds is getting you that. Probably a 1st or a prospect. And in all honesty the Blues are a mess. They probably aren't going to be looking at rentals. |
