"We need more of that grit, more of that grind," Dave Hakstol said. "… There's room for a lot of guys to step forward in that area."

Hak calling the team buttersoft

- Doctor DOOM

So the message is "try harder" from Hak.

Interesting.

Hadn't thought of that.

Really makes you think.

We hope.

I’m not trying to be snarky, I’m just really hoping this doesn’t turn into a recurring problem. Unless they make a deal for another goalie, a healthy Elliott playing the bulk of the games remaining is a must

- BiggE

Nah, we just have to wait for all of the players to start executing better.

The Elliott of the last six games would be great. Expecting him to carry the bulk of the games is asking for too much, imho. I'm not sure he's durable enough to do that.

To continue a thought I am having:

I go to a game, a play, a concert to be entertained. When I am entertained I reciprocate that emotion back, in applause, cheering, standing up, re-verbing back the energy that is being shown to me.

I don't go to a game, a play, a concert to cheer on the entertainment and to provide them with a spark or energy or whatever.

If the entertainment I am paying to see, requires me to be energy for them to play well, well then they should find another profession.

- ggunky

Exactly. The players are paid millions of dollars to perform for the fans, not the other way around.

Elliott out two weeks, until he comes back early and gets re-injured. Rinse/Repeat

6 games of a Pickard/Lyon tandem with games against Tampa and at Toronto, Pittsburgh.

Elliott out 2 weeks then you have getting back in game shape and every save after return could result in aggravating injury...so February?

The worst part about this team is we probably go out and beat Tampa Bay Saturday. Most frustrating team to follow.

I can’t say anything I haven’t already said. Hakstol got good just in time to save his job. Now our team is bad again...

I’m not gonna get upset after the disallowed goal. It could have went either way abs it didn’t make or break us. Personally, I agree with the call, no matter how inconsistent the other calls have been.

I personally know what changes I would like to see but I’ve lost hope they’ll ever happen.

And thats why fans like you are part of the problem. You arent a real hockey fan if you dont entertain the offer of free tickets to your favourite team. I dont care if this is a last place tanking team. I would take free tickets to a game 99% of the time. I went to two NHL games in 06-07 when the Flyers were a pile of poop and finished in dead last. I travelled from Hamilton which is 45 mins from Toronto all the way to Philly, to see them play the Isles and then to NJ to watch them play the Devils 2 days later.

I can understand being busy but dont sit there and say I wont support my team because they arent playing at a level worth my support. People like you are why the arena lacks energy. Flyers arent playing well? BE LOUD! Cheer them on to to energize them. That used to be the norm back when Laviolette coached. Team would have awful lapses and the fans would get them energized again.

I am a STH and attended many, many of those 2006-2007 games.

The only entertainment to be had, until the team made a couple of deals (Upshall, Coburn, Biron, etc), was a dancing fat guy up in the upper bowl of the arena.

Most Flyers fans will cheer, yell, woo, whatever when the team gives them something to cheer, yell, woo about. It's a symbiotic circle and frankly, as a paying customer, it ain't on me to get them going.

By the way, the Dancing Fat Guy has lost a bunch of weight and has gone on to a gig with the Flyers. He's like our own Jonah Hill.

So, maybe, just maybe, there's hope for this team yet.

But right now, they are inconsistent, they play poorly at home, and have been kind of boring and really haven't done all that much to deserve reverberated energy from the home crowd because they've generated so little of it themselves.

Haha i meant it more as in we have the potential to play with teams like Tampa but always seem to find ways to play down to lesser competition or not execute.

In all honesty how long does Hakstol get? If this team is supposed to take a step forward and your not going to make any personnel moves then how long does he get to be .500?

With Quenneville available right now you have to wonder if there is a time limit. I think the longer Quenneville is away I think the easier it is for him to sit out this season

I think the time limit is Ron Hextall's patience.

How many more try harder speeches do you think he needs to hear from his coach?

But so to script!
It screams that this coach can't reach these guys unless absolute doom awaits.
But if it is just regular old marching we will not do, we will be out of step and off tempo until we have to face a doom scenario!!

Im in favour of giving Lyon the reigns the next couple week. Give him a shot and fully understand what you have in him.

You are watching a hockey game THAT is entertainment. No team in the NHL plays a full 60 minutes. If they did there would be less parity. There are lapses where teams are sluggish, the fans chant "Let's go(Insert team name here), that inserts some life back into a team that looks lifeless and they start putting on pressure. Why do you think players fight to spark the team. It is the exact same thing. A hockey game is more than just cheering for your team, its watching all the great players in the league play.

The Flyers sucked in 2006-07 but I got to watch Peter Forsberg play, I got to see Brodeur, Elias, Parise. Flyers lost both those games but it was still entertaining to watch. The game VS Isles was a 5-2 loss and it wasnt any less entertaining. You are just a crybaby like most comment board here. The team loses a couple games so you take your ball and you go home, who cares that they recently just won 6 straight, only the two losses matter

He keeps saying the same thing and getting the same poop result. The ball is in Hextall's court now.

I love G and 100% think he's an elite talent in the NHL but you're absolutely delusional if you think he's in the same tier as Crosby and McDavid
- ajw12

I don't think Giroux is as good as they are but I absolutely think that Giroux is among the group of elite players in the NHL.
