so where is this team today then ? how has this team evolved? are they building something or are they mediocre like they were when Hextall and Hak arrived?

The PK is a disaster for sure ....but this team has other "warts" as well. Has Hextall addressed them or is it simply growing pains and these warts are simply symtimatic of the process?. That is really what this argument comes down to.

I am totally fine with the plan if there's something tangible at the end... But when is the end?...we are basically in year 4 or 5....Is it fair to say Year 6 or 7? (not that im going anywhere) just wondering.

I stated this earlier in the thread, but i saw you skipped the pages so:

My biggest issue is, this team is milk toast.

I was offered 2 free tickets and a parking pass, for last nights game, and never even entertained the idea of accepting them.

Until the special teams improve this team will not win a round in the playoffs.

I don't want to nitpicking individual games. This is now about making the playoffs and making noise in the playoffs.

With the special teams play, this team is currently displaying, they have 0 chance of winning a playoff round. It will be tough to even win a single game.

We were told by the GM that this year was the year to take a step.

The GM IGNORED upgrading the PK, after speaking out about the poor PK after last season and stating he was going to address it.

And thats why fans like you are part of the problem. You arent a real hockey fan if you dont entertain the offer of free tickets to your favourite team. I dont care if this is a last place tanking team. I would take free tickets to a game 99% of the time. I went to two NHL games in 06-07 when the Flyers were a pile of poop and finished in dead last. I travelled from Hamilton which is 45 mins from Toronto all the way to Philly, to see them play the Isles and then to NJ to watch them play the Devils 2 days later.

I can understand being busy but dont sit there and say I wont support my team because they arent playing at a level worth my support. People like you are why the arena lacks energy. Flyers arent playing well? BE LOUD! Cheer them on to to energize them. That used to be the norm back when Laviolette coached. Team would have awful lapses and the fans would get them energized again.

My life doesn't revolve around this team.

You know why I turned down the tickets, because anyone with a brain knew that the Flyers wouldn't put a product on the ice that would be entertaining.

That game last night was great, I mean if you are into that sort of thing.

Last night, I had a great night out with the wife. She was with me when the tickets were offered and even stated " I will do what ever you want". I told her that the game wont be a fun one and that I would be surprised if they score more then 1 goal.

You want more energy in the building, put a product on the ice worth cheering.

Giroux was one of 3 players last season to score 100 points. I think only one player has scored more points over the last 6-7 seasons than Giroux. He is on that list.

I love G and 100% think he's an elite talent in the NHL but you're absolutely delusional if you think he's in the same tier as Crosby and McDavid

You know it’s not good when Alex Lyon has taken over Brian Elliott’s stall at the SkateZone.

I think Elliott may be done for a while if not the season

Thats the kind of attitude that gets teams relocated. Fans support is how teams are built. The money to have a team comes from the fans. The Fans are why players CHOOSE to play here. People like you do not make Players want to play here.

WRONG!

They want to play where they get paid.

Yes, lets blame the fans. I will NEVER understand this line of thinking. If it was all about the fans then cut the prices on tickets and concessions and merchandise.

It is all about the $$$. Stop fooling yourself into thinking it is about anything else.

to be fair I turned down 4 tickets for next Saturdays game in TO...to much of a pain to get there, don't like to have beers then drive, Dinner is goofy expensive...ect.....yet I still fly to philly a couple times a year to watch them and have done so all my adult life. The one point I will make is Hextall did state this year he expected them to take that step. (probably how he got ownership to pony up for JVR) so I mildly expect Hextall to react to some of things you talk of if this team continue its mediocrity.

There are 31 teams offering them millions of dollars. There is a reason beyond money why they choose one city over another. Any team in the league would pay Giroux 8 mill a year, some will pay more.

WRONG! 31 Teams are willing to pay for Talent. Why do you think Giroux chose to re-sign here over testing FA? Any team would have given him 8 mill

I just realized Giroux is the only player with a NMC. Simmonds has a 12 team NTC. This team could totally cash in on the fact Voracek is a star player and signed for like 6 more years to a team/city people hate to play in... like Carolina, Winnipeg, Columbus, Ottawa, or Arizona. Players always seem to be jumping to leave those cities/teams for whatever reason. And they dont really sign anyone. So why not go after a Panarin, or Svechnikov or terrovinian (sp).

Better yet, how about Stone, Anderson, and a conditional 1st if Stone doesnt resign for Voracek.

With Stone not resigning and Panarin and Bobrovsky threatening to leave, how is Hextall not jumping on this.

Dont get me wrong, I love Voracek, but at this point he has to be a valuable piece in a trade.

no I don't. But I think Giroux has proved to be one of the best players on the planet and is one player that is worth that type of $. If the Flyers biggest problem was Claude Giroux the parade already would of happened on Broad street.

There was an expectation to be better but that was overly optimistic. His vision did not entail JVR getting hurt in game 2, his young players struggling to find consistency, PP to decline, to have so many goaltending injuries at once. Hextall needs to let Lyon and Stolarz have a shot at the crease. Lyon has done everything to earn a look. Stolarz played a bit last season and did well with the team. They cant be worse than pickard. I really dont understand the fear here. The goaltending is a horror show. Letting these guys play cant hurt the team any more than they are hurting now.

Even the PK, he said he wanted to improve but I believe he said something along the lines that it needed to be done from within. Which means he is holding the coaching staff responsible for the PK and it has looked better lately than the beginning of the season. It is too early to judge it, it can continue to improve over the course of the season.

I agree with that. I'm just saying I think Crosby and McDavid are in a tier by themselves and G would be in the tier just below them. He's furthest from the flyers biggest problem.

Still doesnt matter. If a RFA doesnt want to be here, he signs a short term deal, then leaves. End of story. You dont sign longterm in a place you dont want to be.
