What does maintain puck possession actually mean? What I see is Weal, normally far away from the actual scoring areas on the ice, far away from the net, normally makes a few turns with the puck, never actually gets the puck to a teammate, nor gets the puck to the net and then eventually gets easily knocked off of the puck. I don't question his effort, I question his ability as an offensive player to make plays on a somewhat consistent basis since he brings little else. He can chip in occasionally, that's about it.

Very well said.
He is ineffective most of the time and some time detrimental. It was not from lack of effort. He has a great work ethic.

Was it the move to wing or finally being healthy? We wont know unless we test the theory. But the team needs him at center, that much is clear. With Patrick centering a 3rd line that will get more minutes then a 3rd line centered by Weal and a 2nd line centered by Couts that can be sent out on a defensive zone draw, this should take some "Tough" minutes away from Giroux if he moves back to center.

However if you can get a good, cheap, short-term 3C without giving alot up... sure. I just dont want to wait till the deadline to make a move.

Being healthy obviously had something to do with it but he is producing at such a high level point wise ever since the move. Taking G away from Coots might turn him into a 40 point player as well though instead of 50+. Obviously G benefits from him as well. I would not break up that duo.

If we have the puck the other team doesn't. Weal's line seems to spend majority of time in the offensive zone. Rather be in the O zone than D zone.

this is true, Weal gets to the right spots quick and usually in the O zone. He anticipates well, probably comes from his O instincts but he needs points to be in the NHL. With JVR all excuses are gone.

Weise, Weal and Simmer played well, I hope JVR kicks in the points for the line

Truth. That said Weal and his line need to chip in some. I think he knows he has to be better. JVR might help him. I can’t wait to see. Go Flyers!

It was a little more detail for those not knowing how Filp got here. It wasn't totally directed at you.

Weal's line has to be sheltered.

The right spots are in the high danger scoring areas. Weal rarely gets there. With or without the puck.

I don't think he'll cost that much. Still has 2 more years after this year. the Flyers have space so you don't need them to retain anything. Flyers have an extra 3rd rounder. Maybe that alone or something built around 3rd rounder and middling prospect.
- J35Bacher

If Chicago wants to deal Anisomov, I would absolutely require them to retain some salary

while I agree he doesn't get himself or the puck to the net, he does get on the puck quickly. He anticipates the play well, he just doesn't complete the play.

I would think that is why his possession numbers are good but points aren't there.

I would say he just plain doesn't make any plays. Period. He needs more determination to play closer to the net.

Exactly most Coaches don't look at lines as much as they look for a duo and then how to augment it.

G-Coots
Oscar-Nolan

are the ones it seems Hakstol likes for the top two lines and he's probably going to search for his third duo using Weal and Laughton.

the net is one thing but the puck starts on the boards most often, he gets there, he gains possession, just nothing comes of it, my opinion.

This was meant as current roster and is really rhetorical. Fun answers are of course always welcome.

It was also not meant to be negative. I’m fine with the team for the most part. It was just to make people think about how the roster is built and our strengths like I have been trying to get across. Puck possession, PP and offense. Play to their potential and it can work. Will there be bad matchups with defensive teams, yes, but they can adjust and need to be faster at that.

You see what Weal does as a positive. I see it as a negative. He dangles with the puck on the perimeter and doesn't make plays.

Options are thin man, what would you like to happen? Misha isn't ready. Lehtera is slow. Laughton is playing well on the wing. You are just complaining.

Jordan Weal is the softest player in the NHL. And arguably the easiest player to knock off the puck in the NHL.

Change my mind.

Depends. What it costs me to retain and what it costs not to.
