Bingo is right about TT: he engages much more with Carolina than he did here. Seems to have traded his alligator arms for a functioning pair.

Schmaltz is only 22. Less than 100 games in the Show, I think - plus a handful in Rockfish. Giving up on him now is absurd, I think, considering his skills and potential.

Attitude wise - at least he backchecks reasonably effectively.

What if we could give him up for another promising young'un like part of a deal for Nylander?

Please tell me what stock to buy! Were you also able to look into the future and predict Teuvo Teravainen would suddenly be able to play with more aggresiveness than what he showed in Chicago? If you did the Hawks need you as their next GM!

Look please stop this TT is now an incredible player talk. On Carolina, because of its talent level, he slots at the top, meaning he plays a lot of minutes and he plays key minutes. Even with this being the case he had a “career” year last year with 23 goals. Year before 15 goals. This year 4 goals in 18 games. Also if TT has in fact become more aggressive so what? Not a hard thing to do when your baseline was zero.

He actually reminds me a bit of Hossa the way he strips pucks off people from behind. Schmaltz has some holes in his game and when he passes to another player when he's in a better scoring position it drives me nuts, but I want the Hawks to work with him to see if they can develop the skills he lacks.

....He plays on the top line because he's good.

Is he elite? No. But he's good.

He has 79 points in his last 100 games.

The point is that people change, and giving up on a 22 year old, who had 52 points last season and has put up numbers at every level he's played, because he's "soft" is foolhardy stuff and part of what got you into this (frank)ing mess in the first place.

Am I the only one fascinated about posters who even care if and where Q may end up coaching again, as if he is some Greek God of Coaching, who will turn any team into a cup contender?

My goodness, as we have learned Marian Hossa was a huge value and more a reason than most would even consider giving him credit for.

Q pulled all the levers and the team was stagnant and ground hog day for 3 years, and somehow leaving the conductor of a one song orchestra in charge and expecting him to play a different song tomorrow, even though he has played the same song for 5 years, is insane.

This team is already better and will be better. We get far more consistency and effort in 3 games then we had in 3 years.

Please, you were clearly drawing a comparison to Schmaltz. Schmaltz’s brother True Grit certainly thought you were. I say if Schmaltz is so coveted by other teams, as True Grit and others say, trade him immedietely getting young, high-end talent in return. However, I think that is not the reality at all.

I don't think anyone is saying TT is an incredible player.

The point is, this team is struggling due to lack of depth and scoring. Having TT on ANY of the top three lines would make this a better team RIGHT NOW, IF, he developed into the same player he is currently in Carolina. No one can say for sure whether that would have happened or not. Could have been a wake up call for himself to get better as a player, or maybe a teammate or coach helped him get better overall as a player.

Now, everyone is doing the same exact thing with Schmaltz complaining about the same things that they did with TT and saying we should trade him away. We need to be ADDING talented players not subtracting them from this team. IF, they can get an equally talented player back for him could it work out sure, but there will always be people who will wish that they never traded Schmaltz away same as people are doing now with TT.

Give Schmaltz some time. He wasn't a Q type of player and constantly played in fear of making a mistake which stunted his growth as a player. Now under JC he can play more relaxed and find his place on this team and continue to develop as a complete player. Will he ever actually do it? Who knows, but give the kid some time to figure it out.

I certainly wouldn’t mind moving him - or almost anyone else on the team with more than four letters in their last name for value - for improving the team.

I mentioned it before, but got lost in all the Schmaltz talk...

As much as any of us would love Nylander, I doubt it happens. Not without Keith being apart of that deal with a lot of other big pieces being involved as well which would only happen if we were completely out of things and looking towards the future...

BUT I did hear a rumor that the Kings might be willing to discuss trading Tyler Toffoli. 26 years old 2 years (including this year) left on his deal at 4.6M. Big power forward type of guy. Could be a really good pickup if this team wants to burn some of their cap space. Seems like the the Kings are looking to free up space going forward so starting with Rutta, a prospect, and pick could maybe get you something there.

Passing the puck to Kane does not make you a playmaker.

Just something to think about production wise.

- TrueGrit

As you tout Nick Schmaltz’s abilities....hmmmmmm

EDIT: What happened this year when 8 was removed from 88's hip? He produced nothing and ended up in the press box...just sayin.....I like the POTENTIAL of Schmaltz, but at some point the kid needs to shoot the (frank)ing puck or he is only hurting 19+88. Would like to see 20 or 12 with Kane/Toews on Friday.

He is on pace for 40 plus points, which is solid in this league.

Yes he should shoot more, but if he is as bad as many say, why is he skating with 19 and 88?

Think about it people.

Most people forget why TT was tradeable in the first place. He was lazy and uncommitted. He said his off-season regimen was playing golf and there was nothing to suggest it wasn’t. There were rumours that he even rubbed other players the wrong way.

Schmaltz isn’t 15, he is an adult. If he hasn’t learned by 22 to train and play harder when does it happen? For those in his corner tell us - is it 23, 24, maybe 25? Even later? Why does DeBrincat not have these issues? Or Yuki? Or McDavid? Or Marner?

What he needs to do is put on 25-30 lbs of muscle between now and next season.

He will start getting his old man strength in the next couple of years.

It will all click in for him in the next month. He will carry the secondary scoring at that point.

I'm not sitting here saying the kid is garbage. I'm saying there are red flags with his training, attitude, and overall hockey sense with the outrageous amount of overpassing. My greatest fear is another Stan Bowman overpay (with a No-Trade Clause). He is playing with 19+88 bc this team lacks depth more than any other in the NHL. David Kampf probably would be a 4th line center on about 10 teams, and in the AHL for another 20 and he was the 2nd line center for the Hawks last night. The Hawks are basically a glorified AHL team past the big guns. And no comment on how your own logic of "passing the puck to Kane doesn't make you a playmaker" applies to Schmaltz too???

Read more carefully. Your Reality is NOT THE REALITY. Schmaltz, and his 2 goals and -6, is not coveted by other teams. Why would he be? A player with 2 goals in 18 games is clearly not exhibiting elite talent, especially when he has played almost the entire year with Kane.
