Depends on their shot attempt differences over an arbitrary period, and can be further enhanced by whether they are "exciting" or "boring" players.
But IMO, this is a straight up steal. |

Did we get a ton better? Traded slightly better offense for worse defense. I don't think I've ever really noticed Pearson but I don't watch a lot of LA games. Is he a good skater? - Thorny87
Skates well not amazing. Pretty much the prototypical does most things well and nothing great middle 6 guy. |

Still got Rust, Sprong and the 2019 1st as trade chips
Well done JR, Well done - RoloTahmasee
I think this is only the beginning and I wouldn't be surprised if all those assets are moved soon. I hate losing Rust at this point because he's still a pretty fast player and we need more than less of that.

Mackey is pretty low on the trade.. Classic (frank)ing Mackey. This guy thinks roster construction and asset management at like a second grade level. |

This guy managed to put up points on Kings teams that didn't score a lot of goals, and was traded for a player that COULDN'T put up points playing on a line with two of the best players in the League
and we got him for 2 more years at a pretty reasonable price
Absolute steal

Not in his prime and not calling a 44 point career high a 40-50 point guy but good trade nonetheless. |

I love Hags for what he brought to this team. I think he was an essential part of the two cup wins. That being said, Hags was set up with a beautiful pass from Malkin last night right in the slot and didn't even get the puck on net. You can only watch so much of that. I think his hands are getting worse and this is a f'n steal if Pearson can regain his form. |

He has 5 points in his last 26 games.
I wouldnt use the term "a steal"
It does make 0 sense to me from LA standpoint.
Why not trade him for picks and prospects.
Why trade him, one of their youngest forwards. that team is so old. and just got older. |

If you played with Malkin & Kessel consistently and couldn't put up points... you are expendable. no other way around it.
Pearson is a guy who still has time to put it together. He is young enough that he can turn it around this season. We acquired Justin Schultz and people thought it was an unimportant move because Schultz was playing terrible for Edmonton. Few years later and Schultz has been a big piece for us. I could see something similar here. Hagelin was not going to turn it around this season and was likely gone after the season. I'm fine with them taking a chance on Pearson.
The important thing is that this is not a speed for speed trade. Pearson is not a speed player. The Penguins cannot keep trying to out skate every team we play. We arent the fastest team in our division anymore let alone the conference. If we keep playing like a speed team, we will keep losing.
Rutherford made a good trade here, but the problems still exist. A defense corps that is not playing well together and a bottom 6 that can't score. |

Everybody sucks on the Kings right now. Pearson has a history of putting up points on a low scoring team, Hags has a history of NOT putting up points on a high scoring team
Hags had negative trade value here and GMJR traded him for a guy with upside |

The issue is I don't know how fixable this is. Getting a top 4 caliber RD is absurdly hard. I think the only way we can get one is if a team decides Hornqvist is worth one. I'd do the trade in a heart beat, but then we'd be pretty dry at forward given that Sprong is busting.

I really like Sullivan, but he is making a lot of confusing decisions with his players. The same things Dan Bylsma did that wrecked this team for several years. I dont think Sprong is a bust, I think Sprong isn't getting the chance to perform. If their vision for Sprong is a spot between 4th line winger and healthy scratch, they should trade him while he has some value. He isnt going to succeed in that role. The defense is a problem, but wrecking your top pairing and putting your best dman with Jack franking Johnson is just stupid. Johnson should be the #6 getting less minutes than everyone else.
I agree with you, these errors aren't fixable over night, Rutherford had the chance to fix that in the offseason and didn't. Hopefully Brassard comes back, that will help. However, the beginning starts with better coaching moves by Sullivan. |
