I agree with all of this other than I have yet to see enough from DB (in the time he's been on the ice, which is approaching BB levels) that warranted his acquisition costs. Using DB as the type of positive move on a go-forward basis to me is not promising.

Not good that Brass had a whole summer to rehab that injury only to re injure it 5 games in.

Just looking back at his last 7-8 moves...

JJ
Cullen
Hunwick
Reaves
Brassard
Oleksiak
Trading away Sheary

I dunno. He did well on what.. 2 of those? I mean acquiring Brassard was a solid move but he can’t stay healthy. Oleksiak has been okay. But other than that... the rest have been trash. So sure he won BtB cups. I’m happy about that. But he won them making progressive moves and getting lucky on the way but (frank), it seems like he has zero direction on how he wants to build this team moving forward.

I think Brassard makes a big difference to the whole lineup wherever he slots. If its on the 1st line then it pushes depth down, if he's 3C then it gives them 3 very good C's down the middle. I prefer him at 3C.

Seems the reason he missed the time last year and this year are related. This time they seem to of taken their time in him coming back, so when he comes back he could play every game the rest of the season for all we know.

66 games left right now, not even 1/4 of season done. Plenty of time for team to rack up wins and make changes if need be.

Id trade Sprong+1st for Duchene.....not Zucs.

The team is getting older, the window is starting to close. 3 yrs max before this group is just too slow all around. Its starting to show, you need young blood around. Zucs is not that person.

Pens need another top 4 Dman and a good under 30 F......SHultz solves the first problem in a few months.

No way Sprong and a 1st gets Duchene here.

Yeah you add more.....but just saying he is a LW.

What scares me more are the misses that JR has. Pass on Skinner, Domi....I think we could have had those 2 based on the parts moved.

Agreed...I also don't get the vibe he likes it in Pittsburgh, and therefore even if we could afford to keep him, he wouldn't sign.

Wasnt he upset about his ice time last year? Thats not gonna change next year as a 3C.....I dont think he is a longterm stay here.

Well being bumped to 3C with no PP time is going to effect his production which in turn is going to effect his pay when he becomes a UFA. While coming to Pitt you probably think you have a good shot at the cup, there are always other factors at play too. Ya know? Good chance his price dwindles a little bit because he’s not a 50 point player anymore (in recent years.) although he did have 5 points in 8 games which is pretty good if you ask me lol

Don't think it is that far off. Sprong is still a good prospect and OTT doesn't have a first. Once they really slip in the standings it becomes of more interest to them.

That Rutherford extension is baffling. I was hoping this would be his last year and Billy G would take the reigns. I guess they can always move him to a consulting position, but geez......the bad moves are piling up.

Now that I think of this.... Is this announcement of JR's new contract a precursor to a fairly significant shakeup?

Wow.... Pens just made a trade, but not announced.

Quick rundown on Pearson

26 year old LW

40 point guy

1 point this season (91.6 PDO)

3.75m cap hit for 2 more years after this season.

Played primarily with Toffoli and Kempe this season.

Good buy low option imo but what did PIT give up is the question.

I guess my thinking is that Sprong and a 1st is easily out bid. Obviously if that was one of only a couple of offers and the bidding war didn't get out of control I could see it winning, but my assumption is that Duchene will be the darling of this year's deadline.

EDIT: This seems irrelevant now. Assuming Sprong and a high round pick?

I think there's more going on than just Pearson. Sprong might not be in this particular deal, but he's definitely leaving soon.

Yup. Really makes me wonder who they traded? Rust? Hags? Horny?
