Acquiring the best RHD (and best D) in the league and then getting a very good #2 D in return for Nylander would not blow up in the team's face. Nope. What's absurd is that some people can't see that the team would be better (especially defensively) if they could pull off that kind of move.

Doughty will probably cost more than just Rielly, so it's kinda like Ottawa paying out the nose to upgrade form Turris to Duchene. Then Doughty will cost twice as much as Rielly to keep on the team. Then, he's older, while Rielly is just starting his prime and leading the league for defenseman, playing the best hockey of his career and looking like a #1 defender. So we'll have a slowing down, expensive Doughty, while Rielly lights it up for another team. Great idea UG.

I want the Leafs to find a way to get a #1 RHD for Nylander. Who the specific player is can be a wide variety of players but the bottom line is for the Leafs to fill their position of need. There's more than one way to do it and I'm exploring different ways they can.

Solid game played overall, now to get set for the real big test vs the Sharks on Thursday, a lot more talent and better goaltending there. Good start to the west coast swing though.

According to you, he's half the price, younger, scores more points so maybe he won't. Maybe if what they added to Rielly is worth it.

Maybe it's not Doughty because he wants to stay in LA. Maybe it's Pietrangelo (with an extension). Maybe it's Ekblad. Maybe it's another #1 RHD who becomes available.

What I'm saying is, try to move Nylander for a #1 RHD. But if they can't do that, maybe the move is to trade Rielly for a RHD and Nylander for a LHD (like H. Lindholm who costs the same as Rielly and is better defensively). Or Provorov. Somebody like that.

Either way, the Leafs would have a top pairing capable of scoring as well as defending and overall, the Leafs would be a better team.

i see vermette is still struggling with his decision on where to sign and i don't blame him. all 31 teams obviously put an offer in so it is not something to be taken lightly. might as well wait as long as he can and sign with the best possible team.
