Rielly tied with MacKinnon for 3rd spot with 24 points now. holy - 21peter
But defenseman who are near the top of the point race aren’t great because they don’t play a two-way game. Trade Nylander, Gardiner and a first for Karlsson. |

Except if you can get Doughty and say no. Then that would be the stupidest thing. - Unholy_Goalie
You are aware he will be making 11 mil per year right? |

doughty is easily better overall but rielly's contract is a lot better. rielly > doughty with contracts taken into account, especially given toronto's cap situation - daeth
I think people forget about contract value when talking about trades... we don't trade Reilly we don't trade Kadri they are the best value contracts we have on the team for the next few years.

Rather have the bigger cap hit and the benefits of having the best two-way defender in the league. Much, much rather have it. - Unholy_Goalie
Again, thank god you’re not the GM. |

Was the reason for starting Andy on Friday to keep the Leafs recent momentum at home going and assure two points? That's the only reason I can think of. - AngryWhiteMale
Who the (frank) knows? Seems pretty stupid not to play Sparks tonight though, against literally the worst team, literally the worst offense and on their 3rd (now 4th) string goalie. Then again against Anaheim (also bad team) in the back to back and give Andersen the start against San Jose (the actual good team who will pepper them with shots). |

Literally every coach ever would start the starter in the 1st game.
The game plan is ALWAYS to try and win, at least, one of the games. Not to try and be smart and win both. Lots of times that backfires and teams lose both.
Win the first game. Then try to get the second. |

Best two-way defender in the league though. Worth it. |

So tomorrow, the Kings decide to blow it up and offer Doughty for Rielly and then offer Nylander for H. Lindholm (or Fowler). You say no?
(frank) no you don't.
The "better" player can play two-ways. - Unholy_Goalie
Dude drop it.
No one here except you wants to talk about the chances of Doughty being traded.
Every comment on here is you going off on something completely dumb and unrealistic
So do everyone a solid and stop. |

There were plenty of ways to (frank) up that draft pick that year, thankfully Reilly wasn't one of them - AngryWhiteMale
Burke did alot of things wrong when he was here, but he also did some good things. Although probably the scouts deserve credit too. That was a great pick and the things Burke said about Rielly being top of their list seems very possible in hindsight. |

Point is to improve the team so that it's possible to win a Cup.
If they can get a #2 LHD for Nylander and a #1 RHD for Rielly, they should do it, as long as those players coming back are signed to extensions and at reasonable prices. - Unholy_Goalie

Oh sure that will work with the cap....no problem |

Why would the Leafs take that deal from LA?? Kempe, Muzzin and a pick MAYBE... we don't want old tired slow players who break down and have crappy contracts! No thanks. |

Now apparently two way defenders are the only way to go. I guess the Karlsson love affair is over. |

Gardiner and Hainsey are gone, that's 7+ million right there. Fill in the bottom pairing with ELCs. It's manageable and worth it if the quality of the player is high enough (it is). |

the $6 mil you save with rielly is borderline enough for another all-star player
you're underrating the importance of cap space i think. i love doughty, probably my pick for best dman in the league. rielly's cap hit is godly though

As of right now, I'd say Rielly's 5M per for 4 years is possibly a top3 deal in the league. |

6 million gets you another All-Star defender? How exactly? What UFA All-Star is going to sign with the Leafs? Tavares just signed for 11. |
