Sure. LA sucks. Budaj sucks. Everyone else we've played hasn't. Reilly is a very good defenseman. He's not great defensively - yet. He is just 24. He's a fantastic player, and probably better than most d-men we'd trade for. (Johnsson! w00t!) I think in many ways he ends up being underrated because he joined the terrible Leafs so young. - Monkeypunk
I agree with most of what you said. I think Rielly is a very good player. But without that defensive game, he's not a real #1. In time, he could improve, definitely. I'm just saying, if the right #1 RHD presents itself, you could acquire him using Rielly and replace Rielly by trading Nylander. For example, Nylander for H. Lindholm (even Fowler) and Rielly for Pietrangelo (or Ekblad or Doughty or any other #1 RHD you can think of), makes the team better overall, especially defensively. |

No.
Keep the better player
Rielly is it. - Fakepartofme
So tomorrow, the Kings decide to blow it up and offer Doughty for Rielly and then offer Nylander for H. Lindholm (or Fowler). You say no?
(frank) no you don't.
The "better" player can play two-ways. |

Nope. No trading Rielly. - Steven_Seagull
Trading Rielly would be about the absolute stupidest thing that could be done. |

Point is to improve the team so that it's possible to win a Cup.
If they can get a #2 LHD for Nylander and a #1 RHD for Rielly, they should do it, as long as those players coming back are signed to extensions and at reasonable prices. - Unholy_Goalie
That's a bit crazy - so we trade both those players just to have our best defenceman on the right hand side? |

Lets just recall whom it was that proposed this in the first place and let it die and just move on already?! It ain't happening! |

Except if you can get Doughty and say no. Then that would be the stupidest thing. |

doughty is easily better overall but rielly's contract is a lot better. rielly > doughty with contracts taken into account, especially given toronto's cap situation |

Was the reason for starting Andy on Friday to keep the Leafs recent momentum at home going and assure two points? That's the only reason I can think of. |

Agreed. Guy is really coming into his own. He's arguably a home grown #1 dman, or a really good #2. He's still young and getting better. |

Given how weak the right side is, yeah, it makes a big difference, especially if the guy who goes on the left side is better defensively. Overall, it improves the defense immensely. |

Rather have the bigger cap hit and the benefits of having the best two-way defender in the league. Much, much rather have it. |

There were plenty of ways to (frank) up that draft pick that year, thankfully Reilly wasn't one of them |
