I still say we put together a female dogin' package for Ekblad.
Nylander, Gardiner, a 1st and a conditional 1st pick if Gardiner doesn't sign.
Ekblad's signed for another 7 @ 7.5 - AngryWhiteMale
I'd do it, doubt Florida would.
If you're Florida, why would you trade your 22 year old, 6'4" monster, RHD with 10-15 goals every year, exceptional status, 1st overall pick?
If Florida sucks, that's status quo for them. They have no fans so that won't change by adding Nylander. They'll just tank, draft high again and try again next year with Barkov, Huberdeau, Ekblad etc.
I'd put money on Quenneville going to Florida too. Their coach is useless and Quenneville has a connection with Florida's GM considering he's the guy that built the Blackhawks. |

If we can't trade for the #1 RHD - and can't get Nylander to agree to a contract. We need to let him sit for the year - and reoffer whatever contract we were offering him next year - not budging again.
It's not the worst case scenario to let him sit - might save a few million on the combined upcoming Marner, Matthews contracts if they see Nylander sit this year. |

I can honestly see Matthews getting a bridge solely based on injury history.
I just can't see us giving him 8 years - AngryWhiteMale
It will probably scare the Leafs but I still think they'll give him 8 years without much hesitation. It's a risk but you really don't want to piss him off.

Ya the cap hit changes each day you get closer to the deadline. If he signed a 6 year deal worth 7MM a year on Dec. 1. the cap hit this year would be 9.7MM and years 2-6 would be 6.6MM.
The rule was meant to prevent teams from signing guys mid-season and getting less cap. Apparently this wasn't though through from Long term deals!
Also Im just paraphrasing the Athletics article but if any team would do something like this, it would be the leafs haha. |

It's the 31st ranked team on their 3rd string goalie.
Offensively, yes, he's doing more than before (even though a large part of that was early in the season and more because of the forwards in front of him) but defensively, that's a different story.
And even if he was solid defensively, that right side is still garbage. |

I can't see a situation where Nylander doesn't accept something on the last day of the month so he can at least get the rest of the year in and make some money. It's a year of his life down the drain and it really says a lot about a guy to miss the chance to play for this team because of a couple million bucks, he could have just pushed this back to next year if he wanted. What a waste of talent. His dad wasn't a team guy, he was always a hired gun. |
