The Leafs can get away with spending 40 million on 4 players. It's just a matter of which players they are and what position they play. If they spent 40 million on 4 forwards, we got a problem. If they spread it out across all positions of need, we don't.

The cap was also a lot lower though so their sub-10 million dollar cap hits were technically lower but as a percentage they weren't that far off compared to what 10 million is today.

No buddy, when they were first signed, they took up more cap %. It wasn't until now, when the cap went up, did their deals eat up less % and allow them to sign more guys like Oshie, Wilson etc.

If the Leafs get their guys signed, there's gonna be a crunch for a couple years but in the future, the important players will still be here and the future will have more space with the cap going up.

With the extra cap we have this year this theory checks out ! Would us Leaf fans be happy with signing Nylander at an average of 6.7m x 7 ? At the expense of him missing the first 20 or so games this season ?
