I completely agree with you here. I have NO idea how this guy is -10 as a member of the San Jose Sharks. The ankle might still be plaguing him but this season isn't going the way anybody expected.

A player with those stats, not named Karlsson would ask for what, 2.5 to 3 mill.

Plus Minus? Its 2018 playa! Karlsson is a no doubt top five Dman, even based on just this year. If you watch him play its clear that he hasn't lost any steps. He's amazing and the results don't always go your way. Sharks are dynamite and he'll be in the Norris convo when all is said and done.

that has to play a HUGE role or else you absolutely have to remove half the guys on that list.

a d-man's job isn't solely to play defence. they also start the transition from defence to offense, the qb the powerplay, they play the point in the o-zone.

offense is, AT THE VERY LEAST, half their job.....so obviously it should be a key factor in determining who's the best.

if their job was to simply never leave the D zone, don't join the rush, don't shoot or anything offensive....then fine, give it to the biggest slowest pylon who clears people out from in front of the net

Hi James,

Since this is all for fun, and lists are stupid, the top 10 dmen currently in my fantasy hockey league are:

1. Burns
2. Rielly
3. Byfuglien
4. Chabot
5. OEL
6. Giordano
7. Josi
8. Subban
9. Letang
10. Hagg

The top 10 from last season are:

1. Hedman
2. Subban
3. Doughty
4. Byfuglien
5. Burns
6. Josi
7. Jones
8. Carlson
9. Dumba
10. Gostisbehere

I am really surprised someone has Hagg in their fantasy league, how is he doing for you? I like Hagg, he isn't flashy or will make people yell how awesome he is, but he is a solid top 6 in the NHL.

You are wrong. Nothing else to say. This is one of the worst arguments I've ever had. Erik Karlsson remains top five and he's not even close to falling lower.

So recent play does not dictate who is considered one of the best? So technically Price would still be considered the best in the NHL?

How is your argument any better: "He's amazing and the results don't always go your way."

...don't always go your way in the short term, in the long term, if the results arent going your way, then you better have a good look in the mirror (as a player).

So we're almost a quarter way through the season and he has been average...how far through the season do we go before the results should start to go his way?....40 games, 60...?

Erik Karlsson has a 60% possession rating and when he's been on the ice for 18 games so far, the Sharks have gotten 50 (FIFTY) more scoring chances than their opposition.

He has a 91 PDO, he's fine.

To be fair he said Fantasy Hockey Dmen. Hagg has been really good in leagues that count Hits and blocks

Forgive me but scoring "chances" doesnt win cups, actual scoring does. And his +\- tells me there's not a net positive in scoring while he's on the ice.

He's also not even their FIRST PAIRING...name me any other player that is top 3 in the league (for that position), and not even the #1 or #2 guy on the team, forget about the entire league.

I don't think anyone would truly put Hagg top 10 in the NHL other than for fantasy points.

Also very good for minutes played (stabilizing Provorov's rocky season) and low giveaways. Oh and of course +/-. Oh and point production is a bonus for not being offensive minded defenseman.

Cody Franson not on your list Tanner? hahahahaha Jake Gardnier hahahaha mistake prone brain dead dummy. And I am a Leaf fan. He's a liability every time he's on the ice. You just don't understand the game and so obviously never played at any level. And your "advanced" stats are flawed.

So explain why 20 games isn’t enough to put Chabot into the top 10, but that same 20 game sample is enough to drop karlsson out of the top 10

...because it makes it easy for him to dismiss him. He probably thinks Chabot is just some rookie and doesn't realize he played 63 games last season. He also probably doesn't know that Chabot is the Sens leader in ice time and shifts per game.

Nobody actually has him on their team at the moment. The league counts hits and PIMs and that is giving him a solid boost in the dmen rankings.
