Have you ever even seen a Blues game? Pietrangelo has been terrible this season, but in the past has easily been one of the best defensive-minded defensemen in the game. Snubbing him is ridiculous. Also, Parayko as one of the best this season? He’s been atrocious.

There is absolutely no way that Chabot is a top ten in the NHL based off not even 20 games. Also, Karlsson not on the list but Chabot is? That is the best example of wishful thinking by a fan of a team I've ever seen. I assume you're a Senators fan otherwise this is even crazier.

Otherwise your list isn't terrible, but Roman Josi probably can't be in the top ten either.

I've got a guy, through 18 games in 2018 he has 7 assists (zero goals), and his +\- is -10.....he qualifies right?

Since you answered, NO, I should tell you that player is the top rated Eric Karlsson, might want to rethink his untouchability since his game hasn't translated to San Jose.

Because points determine the best DEFENSEman....

that has to play a HUGE role or else you absolutely have to remove half the guys on that list.

a d-man's job isn't solely to play defence. they also start the transition from defence to offense, the qb the powerplay, they play the point in the o-zone.

offense is, AT THE VERY LEAST, half their job.....so obviously it should be a key factor in determining who's the best.

if their job was to simply never leave the D zone, don't join the rush, don't shoot or anything offensive....then fine, give it to the biggest slowest pylon who clears people out from in front of the net

I love Chabot and I think it won't be long until his name is in the Norris conversation, but I agree that right now he isn't a top 10 dman......although I think he's right up there.

he's been sheltered a lot, getting mostly offensive zone starts and not usually playing the toughest minutes.

I think he might be ready for those minutes but for some reason the coach (in all his brilliance) gives those hard minutes to Ceci and Borowiecki (likely the main reason Ottawa gives up so many shots and goals).

Chabot is clearly an elite offensive d-man, and anyone who says otherwise is a hater or is insane, but I don't think you can be considered a top 10 guy unless you play against the opponents best players every night........same reason why Gardiner shouldn't be anywhere near a top 10 list.......he's probably not even top 30-40

I'm definitely not a Sens fan... I just don't think Erik Karlsson is a top 10 defenseman in the NHL anymore. Elite PP QB? Absolutely! But I don't think Karlsson is anywhere near being a top 10 defenseman in the NHL. Just take a look at Karlsson's +/- this year... he's -10. Next closest Shark? -5, Rourke Chartier/Kevin Lebanc... Dillon is -4, Vlasic is -1 and the rest of the Sharks defensemen are on the right side of +/-. Being honest, how in the hell are you -10 while playing for the San Jose Sharks?

Is Chabot's name being included in the Top 10 a bit premature? Perhaps. But there's no denying that RIGHT NOW he is performing at a Top 10 level and has the tools to stay there for a very long time.

I completely agree with you here. I have NO idea how this guy is -10 as a member of the San Jose Sharks. The ankle might still be plaguing him but this season isn't going the way anybody expected.
