Cool man , my argument totally applies in this scenario because the same thing you're saying about Weal was most definitely said about St. Louis back then as well. But obviously only your arguments are ones that are well thought out and can be taken into consideration as valid points.

In the interest of common sense it doesn't apply. You mention one player who went on to become a top player and you think that applies to Weal. Why exactly? St. Louis has zero to do with Weal and what kind of player he is or is going to be.

Imho, the St. Louis comparison is not valid. Weal is what you see - a small, marginal NHL player.
- Scoob

St. Louis was a player who was a superior skater, had great hands and a great shot and was able to overcome his size disadvantage due to to those skills. Weal is not remotely comparable in any way.

Maybe so , I just brought up St. Louis as a comparable because it was likely that until his 4th NHL season where he had a breakout year offensively many viewed St. Louis the same as Weal , as a small marginal NHL player. Weal may never be a solid consistent player for this team but constantly playing him out of position since he's been here and never giving him consistent line-mates to play with doesn't help the guy in terms of seeing him at his best. I just want to see the Flyers play Weal at 3c for a decent period of time with regular line mates, then you can actually evaluate what he is.

St. Louis in what was essentially his second NHL season in terms of games played put up 18 goals and 40 points. The following season, he put up 35 points in 53 games. He showed a steady progression and promise that Weal has not shown.

It comes down to marginalization. The point I'm trying to get across is people likely thought of St. Louis the exact same way you are classifying Weal right now. Eventually the perception on St. Louis changed because after being given 4 seasons to get his game together and use that experience to adjust effectively he broke out and became a great player. Weal may never become that but the Flyers haven't given him a fair chance to showcase what he is in my opinion and before we all come to a conclusion I believe the guy deserves that opportunity.

Like I said lets agree to disagree. Your viewpoint is that Weal is a career AHLer , while I view Weal as a player that can be a solid contributor in a 3c role for this team if given the opportunity and quality players to play with. Both our views are obviously not changing so there is nothing else to discuss here as I will never have the same opinion as you on the matter.

First of all, you're wrong in stating that it took St. Louis 4 seasons to get his game together. Most importantly, anything having to do with St. Louis is irrelevant to what kind of player Weal is or is ultimately going to be. Weal has absolutely been given a fair chance.

I knew your view wasn't going to change and was off base when you used the adjective great to describe Weal. My intent was not to change your mind or opinion but to discredit it.

Yeah Drunk and hungover GM day.
I want to trade Weal, Simmonds, GlassMan, shooter tutor, Hagg, our Zamboni Driver and my Uber Driver for -
a goalie - a goal scorer - solid defensively and a good citizen who is not afraid of the Rain.

You will know when Weal gets to Tampa and is scratched into perpetuity like Martel or puts up St Louis #s.

Dude we can't trust your shady Uber driver. He'll leak more team secrets than Flyers goalies leak goals.

Weal is like a poor man's version of a poor man's version of St. Louis. He has offensive instincts, yes, but he's not in the same class as St. Louis.

Do I think Weal could be an everyday NHL player? Yes.
Do I think that he will ever even come to near to approaching what MSL did or become anything more than a fringe secondary scoring option? No.

Weal if he has the right linemates might be able to post 10 goals, maybe 15 assists or so in a season which are okay numbers but the problem is, there is nothing else to his game. He is weak on the boards and in puck battles, so you can't use him defensively. He doesn't kill penalties. A player putting up those point totals needs to have more elements to his game in order to be a regular NHL 3C.

I do not understand the Weal love for some people.

Small player, borderline NHL..He is the key!

This. I see him as a nice 13th forward who can play multiple positions and step in if a skill player gets injured
