I want Willy to sign a 8 x 6.5-7M

Or a 2 year bridge at 5M per.

Like (frank), this is taking way to long!

Dudes gonna be rich, plus has a few endorsements already. He's being greedy.

Poor guy.

I wonder if he has the record for the most speaking cameos in movies.

Now that you mention it, i would think so.

I feel like if the Leafs won in a Boston on Saturday most of you wouldn't be turning on Nylander as aggressively

It seems to me that JT Matthews and Marner are the Leafs big three to speak of and that’s nothing against Nylander at all that’s just how it is so they are saving their money for Matthews and Marner....if Nylander wanted to play ball and sign for what the Leafs want then obviously they would love to keep him too but he won’t so now he will be traded.....how different this whole thing would be if it was reversed and Matthews and Marner were up first
- RatedR80

In terms of importance to the team;

Nylander is probably 6th or 7th.

Nothing against him, but he has to realize that the best situation for him is to stay here.
From the outside, cause no one really knows what's going on; It looks like he is being selfish.
Would you take $6.5M a year for a chance at the Cup, or would you take $8M a year, and not compete for a Championship?

Me personally I would take less to win a cup....6.5 mil is still 6.5 mil and it’s more then any of us will get to see in a lifetime ...he will fetch you something decent in a trade which in the end might actually make the Leafs better then had he been playing

I actually think best situation for him is to sign 7+ million for 7-8 years on a good team where he can be the 2nd or 3rd best forward.
Examples:
- Anaheim
- NYR
- Arizona
- NYI
- Mtl
- Carolina
- Detroit
- Columbus
- Min
- Nsh
- Vegas
- LA
- Stl

I'd take a bit less to play on a team that has a chance for a Stanley Cup. Especially if I knew I was getting endorsement deals on the side the way he is.

Plus he will have another big contract way down the road.

He's being a turd.

Wouldn't say "turning on him." It's more of a "I'm getting frustrated that this has dragged on for so long"

I want him here, but I don't see how that can happen.

1) If he signs for what he is reportedly asking for, what does that mean for Matthews and Marner?;

2) If he signs for what he is being offered, will he come back and be happy and play well, or will he be pissed off and grumpy?

He generally has roles. I think we need a definition of cameo.

Not as easy as it sounds; The team would have to give up the necessary assets to acquire him, plus they would still be in the same situation that the Leafs are in right now. All it does, is move the problem from the Leafs to another team

He's not being a turd.
In fact, thinking about how things are panning out (with Marner and Matthews contracts becoming higher than Dubas projected), I can understand Nylander's position: he prefers to be traded to a team he's ok with, than being shipped off to any team of Dubas' liking after this season (when Leafs have about 8 RFAs, including Marner, Matthews and Kapanen + potentially resigning Gardiner).

If I'd be Nylander, and I am counting on to be dealt soon anyways, I'd rather have a say in where I'm being traded to - the moment he signs a contract with the Leafs, he loses that leverage.

It's less about the money, and more about the fact that he wants to be traded to a team of his liking.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

Edit: I'd say him in True Romance is more of a cameo. He gets blasted with a shotgun right away.

That movie is pretty good, almost forgot it even existed lol.

For a player on a team that has a wide window to win a cup, being ranked lower then 5th possibly even 7th when it comes to importance on the team. He will still be a Top 6 forward, just like on another team if he were to be traded. So it's not like he will be gaining ice time or anything like that.

And he gets to play with a bonified centerman for most of his career, that he has already proven they are one of the better dynamic duo's in the league.

Just take the money and finally play some hockey ffs.

Leafs just need to fork up 7M and call it a day, he will be worth that for sure, there is no denying that.

The fact that a guy coming off his ELC apparently has the “power” and “holds the cards” are absurd at best.....but that’s the system that’s currently in place....enjoy the hockey while you can boys because the strike will happen....players must see it too since more are signing “lockout proof” deals

You don’t just “take time off and recover” from a concussion. Their effects are cumulative and life long... and the more concussed you are the more likely you are to get concussed again.
- Feeling Glucky?

Yes, you do depending on the severity. You have no idea how "bad" or "mild" Ekblad's concussions were. They were also spaced out and not close together, which is a major factor. He ate a punch from Domi and was fine. He towers over the majority of the league, the concussion "issue" isn't nearly as big as some of you people are trying to make it seem.

As for Ekblad himself... he’s a big body who doesn’t put up much in the way of points, and was drafted high, so it’s easy to say he’s an elite defensive dman... but the numbers show he doesn’t have a huge positive effect. Over the last two seasons and change he’s been a step behind Larsson. Granted, he’s younger than Adam Larsson... but you can’t just handwave away the concussions because the best player in the league managed to bounce back from his troubles. And let’s not. Pretend that Crosby is 100% the player he was, either. His point pace is noticeabley lower in the seasons following his concussions than before.

He's (frank)ing 22 and he's scored 10+ goals every year. He plays for the Panthers and playing with Yandle changes a lot of stats for him. Crosby was good enough to win 2 Cups post-concussions. Whether he's as good as he was before is a different story and could be age, different linemates, different style of play, different system, different coaches etc.

Bottom line; if the Leafs can get Ekblad for Nylander, they'd be complete idiots to pass on it.

I hope Dubas sticks to his guns like this with Marner and Matthews. I'd like Matthews at 8 x 11 and marner at 8 x 8
- Aaron_85

Sure, we all would.
But theyll be paid more than that.

Matthews should not make a dime more than Tavares. He just doesn't have the numbers to justify it. He scores goals, granted, but his point totals and his injuries can't have him over 11. I think 10 is fair but 11 is the max. Marner shouldn't be over 8 either.

In order of importance to the team he is way down the list:

Matthews
Tavares
Marner
Rielly
Kadri
Andersen
Gardiner
Nylander

Arguably gardiner could be lower and the other are in no particular order but Nylander isn't in the top 5 of importance to this team.

- Aaron_85

I'd personally move Freddy up near the top. That's just how important I think he is to this team.
