Im tired of hearing and reading all the comments from Leafs fans about the Nylander's saga. They seem to know exactly what will happen for sure in that case, but they aren't. They're also thinking the value of the Swede is sky high and that Dubas will get the moon back for him. No team will sacrifice a #1 or #2 defenseman for a guy who only got 2 back-to-back 61 point campaign with a team packed at the forward position.

Even if Dubas signs Nylander, the defense isn't strong enough to compete for the cup this season. Reilly is the only good D-man on the Leafs squad. Gardiner is an offensively-skilled defenseman but isn't effective in his own zone. Zaitsev is a good two-way D, but sometimes he gets lost defensively. Hainsey is 37 years old and his best days are behind him. He's tired and not a top-4 D anymore. So, if the Leafs don't strenghen up his defensive corps by using Nylander or someone else as a trade asset, you can forget the cup.

But you do realize that Nylander would instantly be the top forward in a Hab lineup? For a guy that's not supposedly worth trading good D men for. Not that I see any D men there that would improve us by much. Weber maybe if Habs retain 6mil a year

This narrative has to stop. Their D is as good as the last 3 cup winners. Rielly isn't just "Good", he;'s the frontrunner for the Norris right now and a stud #1 D.
If Nylander is traded for D help, look out. Leafs never allow many GA despite the constant talk of their D being the worst.

What will happen in a 7 game series when the opposition has to match-up against the Leafs centres/ Everyone ignores that issue and it's always 100% about the D.

Let me guess, the Hab sD is much better, right?

Leafs GA-46
Habs GA-55

I keep hearing how bad the Leafs D is. How come they never give up a lot of goals? They had the 3rd lowest in the East last season.

Here's another one:

Tampa is a cup favourite is Leafs have an AHL D, right?

Leafs GA: 46
Tampa GA:48

People just like to troll the Leafs and their fans cause they have nothing better to do. Even if you post these facts, they will remain naive.

How so?

Ok, maybe I went a bit too far in saying "all", but a good number of fans think the Leafs' poop don't stink.

It's not just the Leafs, Oilers fans did it too, and I hear nary a peep from them anymore on the Sabres' blogs.

I think the most amusing thing day to day is people calling out other fan bases on their "homerism".

The idea that their own fan base is somehow not guilty of that is hilarious.

Fans are pretty much the same everywhere, people just don't want to see it.

... reminds of a couple months ago, when someone laughed at all the Leafs fan on the EK thread who thought Matthews was better than McDavid. On closer inspection... ONE person said that. In fact, every other posting by a Leafs fan scoffed at the idea.

I think it's fair to say that if the Leafs could improve their defense they have a legitimate shot at the Cup. If they don't already. I think the best thing the Leafs can do with Nylander if they're going to trade him is acquire a defenseman. Especially if that player is RH.

I absolutely agree.

It's tough prying one away from another franchise though, but we'll see what happens.

The D is much better than the narrative which exists. They are right where they were after 82 games last season, 3rd lowest GA in the East.

The GA would be much higher if that narrative was correct.

I'm not in the camp with the narrative that the Leafs defense is poor. I'm in the camp of saying it's an area they can improve to solidify themselves in the hunt for the Cup. Adding a quality two way puck moving defenseman is a need.
