I read this as the leafs putting this out there to have offers in hand by Dec 1 but really just using this as a way to threaten Nylander with a trade to try to get him to lower his demands. If he doesn't then the leafs will have a fall back option sorted out.
I always thought it was dumb for dubas to say he could sign all 3. If I were the agents of those players then the asking price goes up after seeing that comment. - danktrees
It made sense to assume he could sign KneeLander for a comparable amount to Ehlers, because they're very comparable players. |

So he should have said he can't sign all of them?
I'm confused. How does their asking price go up after he says he can sign them? |

I bet the Leafs will regret trafing Nylander(Regardless of return for him) once it becomes apparant that Matthews is injury-plagued and unable to fulfill the role of a no. 1 centre on account of being on the LTIR too much.
At this point with Auston's health a serious issue I would just give him a deal in the 7-7.5 range and then wait and see what happens with Matthews. I bet he misses more time this season and we end up having to move him instead because he's just too unreliable. |

Leafs have a 50+ pt Dman on their first and second powerplay units. They don't need a one dimensional offensive Dman. They need a good shut down Dman preferably right shot. Be nice if he had some offensive ability. Ghost doesn't make the leafs a whole lot better. - HealthyScratch6
Today's NHL game is about attacking, playing in the opposition's end more and controlling the neutral zone and the bluelines. In that regard, Gostisbehere is an elite defenseman. His ability to move and transition the puck, ability to read plays and attack and defend in the neutral zone, as well as play in the offensive zone at 5 on 5 play would absolutely make the Leafs a better team. Especially playing with the Leafs group of forwards. |

Pretty much the entire league would be lined up to see if they could acquire that unreliable player.

Don’t reply to him.
He’s trolling.

Well, I just saw a picture of the leafs gm. Maybe Nylander doesn't want to play for a team that hired a pedophile to run things...holy cow, I guarantee that dink wears skinny jeans - Pet.m.d.

I wonder if Hedman is available? I'm sure Tampa would be interested in a one for one deal. "Elite" for "Elite." |

No AssBak! : That is unrealistic Leafs should trade Willy for the elite player the Nucks picked two spots ahead of him the immortal Jake Virtanen and his beauty 43 career points in 158 games. Now he's elite. And how about the superstar Juolevi. That's it Leafs can trade Marner, Nylander and throw in two firsts for Virtanen and Juolevi and the Nucks will graciously throw in that defensive sensation (and he scores about 10-20 points a year) drum roll please ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Tanev. |

Dubas is also sending a message to Nylander that they’re starting the process to trade him. Maybe that makes him realize that if he wants to spend his career winning beside one the leagues best players, he better make a move sooner than later. - Schennski
Ass backwards
Nylander sent the message pay up or trade.
Glad he won’t take a discount after the JT lockout proof deal. Dubas screwed up. |

Curious...what would you have done in Dubas' shoes? Play hardball with Tavares who already was willing to take less than what SJ was offering? |

No he would make butt hurt comments because his team wasn't one of the teams considered to make offers.

You hearing voices in that cavern of a skull of yours? When the Leafs don’t wear out Freddie & they stop fishing the puck out of the net maybe the 2nd round & higher is realistic. Get some thicker skin btw
Paying JT & knowing AM will get paid is simple math for most but not some ppl.
Cue the kneejerkers... |
