Dubas is also sending a message to Nylander that they’re starting the process to trade him. Maybe that makes him realize that if he wants to spend his career winning beside one the leagues best players, he better make a move sooner than later.
- Schennski

Maybe Nylander wants to get past the first round of the playoffs more than he wants to get paid? In which case, he may be okay with a trade.

Or maybe he doesn't care about winning at all and just wants the fat payday? In which case, he is still fine with the trade.

The flyers don’t need nylander now.....not for ghost and especially sanheim.until they either trade for a good goaltender or wait for hart their a bubble team at best.

I think it is obvious,
It is a message to Willy-boy that the Leafs will trade him for the right return...so if you want a ligitimate shot at the SC in the next couple years, better sign on the dotted line before he is traded to a bottom feeder feam with little chance.

It's actually a good deal for Toronto. They need to upgrade their defense and he's signed to really good contract.

I read this as the leafs putting this out there to have offers in hand by Dec 1 but really just using this as a way to threaten Nylander with a trade to try to get him to lower his demands. If he doesn't then the leafs will have a fall back option sorted out.

I always thought it was dumb for dubas to say he could sign all 3. If I were the agents of those players then the asking price goes up after seeing that comment.

You said it doesn't work for either team. I think it does for Toronto.

Being a fan of the flames we got hannafin at a STEAL, yes time will tell but looks awfully good....Too bad leafs!!

I think how they treat nylander ends up influencing the entire team. They give him lots of money now, marner and Matthews will want much more, they trade him, they will think they are expendable and probably not sign up long term as they cant get NTC.

The leafs need defense at all costs and seems to me that all teams know that and wont pay for the leafs issue to fix the leafs....Not their team neither would I.

Ok it does work for Toronto...they get someone who plays and lose someone who is not.

I just talked to Alex, he said Willie is chillin' on a floaty in his spa. Dad just wants someone to be good.

Toronto gains a need on defense with elite skills and signed to a team friendly contract.

Why would that comment raise the asking price? That's the silliest thing ever..

I think this is a hard trade for everyone, especially if Nylander holds hard on his ask for around $8m on a long term deal. How do you fit that into your salary structure? Every team has players coming due. You might find Dubas has support from other GMs wanting him to hang on and not give in. Can anybody afford to pay their 5th or 6th best player in the $8m range?

Only in Toronto could anyone believe that a team would trade a YOUNG 55+ point scoring PPQB player like Ghost for a 2x 60 point malcontent looking to be paid on performance that isn't yet proven.

I am not saying Philly and Tor aren't a good match for a Nylander trade but Ghost isn't going anywhere.

The player I would see (and it will suck to watch him be so good in Tor) is Sanheim. Sanheim isn't proven but he is absolutely on a steep incline in terms of NHL career development.

And please people understand: D-men are much more valuable than forwards. That's why JvR got traded for Luke Schenn (I just threw up a little in my mouth) in that a no. 2 overall forward for a no. 4 D-man is pretty much of a fair trade even if it ended up sucking pretty hard for the Flyers.

Tor also has to understand that there is a salary cap and that they can't pay everyone $7,000,000 to $10,000,000 as Toronto radio would suggest. Austin Matthews needs to get MAJORLY paid. JT is already getting paid. Marner needs the cash dollars too.

I think a Sanheim for Nylander trade would actually be good for both parties in that the Flyers would be scary over 3 lines and could hope to bring up Morin when he's back from the torn ACL. Puck moving D-men that can score AND are cheap are about as rare as they come. Toronto becomes better too.

I do think if this trade happened it might mean Simmonds would not have a future in Philly long term which would suck but just as I noted above for TOR - the Flyers too forget that there's a cap sometimes. At least before Hexy was GM.

Leafs have a 50+ pt Dman on their first and second powerplay units. They don't need a one dimensional offensive Dman. They need a good shut down Dman preferably right shot. Be nice if he had some offensive ability. Ghost doesn't make the leafs a whole lot better.

I think that is correct. But, if the Leafs have a shot at Doughty I think they add some sweeteners to Nylander and give it their best shot.

Fully understand he earned the right to do this but in all reality is this not disgusting of the player to be holding out on your teammates when your still by no means a elite proven player, He is good/great no doubt but cant grasp how a player would not be chomping at the bit to join the Leafs this season - would he even be accepted fully back in the locker room?

He was on the 2nd PP unit all season last year...With great 5v5 points.

He is better than his point totals suggest which is why he wants more money....but sadly for him it doesn't work like that.

Well, I just saw a picture of the leafs gm. Maybe Nylander doesn't want to play for a team that hired a pedophile to run things...holy cow, I guarantee that dink wears skinny jeans

I always thought it was because Holmgren was desperate to replace Pronger, and wrongly thought Schenn could be that guy.
