Nope, it would be what ever salary he gets divided by 5 years.
So if he gets 8x7 it would be 4 1sts. |

Leafs do ok financially - you are an idiot for pointing out a flaw in the salary cap system that hurts teams like the Leafs and rewards meaningless teams like the Coyotes.
below is the ranking on revenues by team - I only included leafs and your team.
Rank Team Value 1 yr change Debt/Value Rev Op inc
#2 Toronto Maple Leafs $1.4 B 27% 8% $211 M $76 M
#31 Arizona Coyotes $300 M 25% 83% $98 M $-19 M
Source : Forbes
The $300 million net worth of the Coyotes is remarkable - considering a new franchise would cost $500 million plus. Your team has mouched off the rest of the NHL for decades now - winsix
It amazes how quickly and for such such insignificant reasons the NFL moves teams and the Coyotees are still in Arizona.

At the very least, a one year deal should of been reached or traded before the season.
7 per for 8 years seems reasonable for a top line scoring winger. You draft good players, you pay good players. - Pet.m.d.
How do you know Dubas has not offered that? |

Actually we would be both right, if the assumption is the contract is a 6 or 7 year term it would increase the AAV, but 5 years or less would make the AAV the correct amount.
No one is giving up 4 1st for a 6/7 year term and if that is ONLY what Nylander wants then that explains why he is sitting on his couch right now. If Nylander would accept shorter term for more money then the cost to the team would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick.
5x8 = 40 (8 AVV) 1st, 2nd, 3rd
6x8 = 48 (9.6 AAV) 2 x 1st, 2nd, 3rd
7x8 = 56 (11.2 AAV) 4 x 1st
The question is do other teams feel Nylander is worth 8M+ AND the assets to get him? Obviously not or a deal would be done with either Toronto or another team long ago.
Technically a 5 year worth 8M per would be ideal for Nylander, he gets term and lots of money plus he gets the best chance to make more becoming an UFA, unless he is not confident in becoming a better player 5 years from now. |

40 degrees, rain and snow in Toronto... what 5,6,7 months of crap weather for Americas hat left? Maybe ya'll salty today cause the Bruins smoked the leafs yesterday. No Nylander, and bad team management. I'll enjoy my day at the golf course. 75 and sunny here... |

Toronto is the same weather as Chicago and New York. Big deal.
And Arizona has had bad management for 22 years and counting.
Toronto destroys Phoenix as a city. |

Does another team still have the ability to offer sheet Nylander? If they do the cost would be a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd.
Doesn't seem like a lot to give up if you are willing to pay someone 8M a year. I seriously don't believe any NHL team believes Nylander is worth 8M a year or 3 drafts picks. - Glak18
Why not? A young 60+ player at 22 is sure to keep improving. No reason he wont be a point per game player IMO |
