It's going to be a THREE WAY deal between Van, Ott & Carolina. Van sends Motte to Sens for Duchene who is flipped for Canes' 1st round pick.
Sens dump salary. Melnyck sleeps a little better and Duchene doesn't use UBER in Carolina. Everyone wins.
The prior rumour is a clever smokescreen by Ek. - fatty_mcmanboobs

Montour and Kase for Nylander and Gardiner. Leafs don't think they'll be able to afford Gardiner next year. Montour gives them a few years to get Marner and Matthews signed and the roster sorted out. - duxcup07
Again...when somebody tries to sell how the trade helps the teams involved, it's a terrible trade. too funny. |

Leafs management better pull something off here, they had to know parameters for Nylander's
contract.
Instead they ask him to take one for the team and except less.

No idea who those are, but Montour better be a 50+ point equivalent defenseman and Kase a 60+ point rookie otherwise you're smoking kale. - Buggy166
Montour is overhyped and has been a disappointment. Nylander is proven. |

Is asking him to take less than 8 million really asking him to "Take One For The Team".
Pastrynak who was dominant last night makes 6.7 million per. Larkin just signed for 6.1 million per and he had more points last season than Nylander ever has and is the same age.
FYI, that rookie GM signed Tavres for millions less than vet GMs Lou and Wilson were offering. Biggest UFA signing in at least a dozen years. |

Nylander for a young Dman makes sense. On HNIC they were talking about a 6 year $40m deal as being the minimum number needed to get Nylander under contract.
Leafs just can't do that with the Tavares contract ($11m) locked in and Matthews and Marner probably going to add another $22m to the cap next year. - spatso

Weird behavior if you ask me, but whatever gets you through the day my man.
Sorry your g.m. blew the Nylander situation, now other gm's won't offer nearly what he's worth. |

You do realize that just because Taveras was offered more in two other spots still doesn’t mean Toronto got a deal right? It was a very good signing and Toronto paid a absolute premium to get him. Dallas paying seguin less kinda proves that. |

I think Tavares is better than Seguin first off. Secondly Seguin would have gotten more on the open market. apples and oranges.
No one expected Tavares to sign for less than 11 per. most thought 12-13 per. |

The Leafs don't have to move him now. Are you aware? They aren't moving him unless it's a great deal.
So Nylander is worth 8 million per in your opinion? |

Nice comeback. Passive aggressive. Touched a nerve, I guess
The fact is you do not know “he blew it”. Nobody does, yet. It’s funny to read people, who literally know nothing, speculating on who has won and who has lost. You are just the same as the rest of us schmucks, outside of the Doritos |

Your ribs are lame, but the fact is one of the leafs best players is thousands of miles away from the team. Almost 20 games into the season.
That's a failure on team management. |

At the very least, a one year deal should of been reached or traded before the season.
7 per for 8 years seems reasonable for a top line scoring winger. You draft good players, you pay good players. |

He (Gross) negotiated the same way for Gaudreau. Difference there is Gaudreau (apparently) tol him after missing a few games screw this. I want to play hockey so make a deal.
If I'm a GM I'm thinking long and hard about the effect on team chemistry that this kind of selfishness would have. I'd bet half the Leafs hope he doesn't get signed. |

Does another team still have the ability to offer sheet Nylander? If they do the cost would be a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd.
Doesn't seem like a lot to give up if you are willing to pay someone 8M a year. I seriously don't believe any NHL team believes Nylander is worth 8M a year or 3 drafts picks. - Glak18

If he paid every player 10 to 20 per cent more than their actual market value, in a cap league, whenever their contracts came up, that would be a correct assessment. Could still come true though.

Leafs do ok financially - you are an idiot for pointing out a flaw in the salary cap system that hurts teams like the Leafs and rewards meaningless teams like the Coyotes.
below is the ranking on revenues by team - I only included leafs and your team.
Rank Team Value 1 yr change Debt/Value Rev Op inc
#2 Toronto Maple Leafs $1.4 B 27% 8% $211 M $76 M
#31 Arizona Coyotes $300 M 25% 83% $98 M $-19 M
Source : Forbes
The $300 million net worth of the Coyotes is remarkable - considering a new franchise would cost $500 million plus. Your team has mouched off the rest of the NHL for decades now |
