The Snakevares signing threw a wrench in everything. Dubas expects Nylander to take a pay cut because of that, Willy and his agent obviously know he can get much more on the market and/or with another team that has the cap space. You cant blame him for not accepting Dubas's lowball, Ill tell ya if Dubas thinks hes gonna play these games with Matthews and Marner too he has something else coming to him. Either way itll be fun to watch him implode and the fanbase turn on him for his idiocy after the media touted him as the Einstein of hockey

It isn't a matter of Dubas wanting him to take a pay cut, no team will pay him what he thinks he is worth

Carey Price's contract will be a bigger albatross than Tavares's contract, 3 more years and Price is 3 years older than J.T.
Btw, i would rather have Dubas aka "Einstein" as you call him, than Bergevin who next to Peter Chia is the worst g.m. in all of hockey.
Yes, i will gladly grab some popcorn every time the Leafs lay a beatdown on the re-Habs......

If he was an UFA someone would, but alas he's not, so 6.5 to 7.0 is where he stays. If not, then Dubas should let him sit till next year as an example. Kyle is young, so people want to test him...let Nylander be the statement.

To be literal it would not be a pay cut. He was only earning about $1 million a yr on his ELC.

Less than what we wants - not a pay cut.

I disagree. I think there are a few teams that would give him what he wants. He is a skilled guy. Problem is finding a deal. Dubas isnt going to get full value because teams know he's in a bind. In order for a deal to work Toronto would likely need to take a bad contract from a team unless they already have room to pay Nylander.

Leafs have around 12-15 million in cap space this season.

The classic Saturday "I have other things to do" one line blog.
I'll just throw some crap out there and they'll eat it up and I could go on doing other things.
Like a lot of you said...there will be no follow up blog to this.
Tomorrow will be some different crap

Who do the KIngs have that's better than Pecse?
- RogerRoeper

Muzzin is 6,3” 27yr old defenseman. Salary cap of $4M. I think he would make a better partner for Reilly. Everyone else moves down one. This would allow Hainsey to move down as a 4th dman and be themore defensive aware partner for Gardiner than Zaitsev is.

Obviously we’re giving away alot of scoring by trading Nylander and Bracco, which is why getting Toffoli (4.6M) or Villardi will help offset that. LA has some young defensive prospects that also be considered but I think this makes better sense for both teams

I love reading these Lougans stating their opinions as fact. The Leafs will regret signing Tavares. The Leafs won’t get full value for Nylander because other teams know they’re in a bind. Really?
Well, there were over a dozen teams that wanted Tavares. Most would have paid more than the Leafs ultimately did. Nylander is, at best, the sixth best player on the Leafs. You can’t pay your sixth best player 8 mil. I say he either signs a short term deal or is traded. Either way, Nylander will be elsewhere in a few years.

I don’t care too much for this guys blogs but I agree with one thing....Nylander has been bashed a lot by Toronto media (Sportsnet and TSN’s so called pundits) both of whom are entities owned by the Leafs (Bell/Rogers). Talk about bias...

People saying that Nylander is crazy for asking for 2+ million more than his comparables, isn't bashing him.

It's the truth.

Just the pay the man what he's asking for! He's soft, disappears in the playoffs and only puts up points because of Matthews who also sucks but he deserves 8 million!

Yes but Leafs need to sign a bunch of other. They have the room right now but using that would mean they dont have the room for Marner, Matthews, Kapanen and Gardiner.
