I think that was a shot at all of his critics; not just the media.
I also felt like he was saying that critics that call out little used 4th line guys as the root cause of problems isn't fair and I don't think he's wrong in that, either.
But I do think Weise played himself out of a job while here, so it's nice to see him play himself back into a job. He's done well so far and I hope he keeps it up. - johndewar
I felt bad for him to be honest when he was booed on opening night. I hate when players get booed during introductions. I don't know |

I agree....it creates a uneasy feeling. Even if I don’t like a certain guy on the Flyers, booing during an intro is ignorant.

That was a good read of the situation as well, Bill. I like most fans want to see these guys succeed, and when they play poorly it’s part of being a highly paid pro....criticism will follow. When a team loses or shows the same inconstant play that’s plagued a team for several seasons, a coach is fair game to be criticized. When a PK sucks for 3 plus years, it’s fair to point out that the common denominator is the PK coach. When a free agent signing of a big, physical winger that doesn’t play that way for two years sits in the press box it’s easy to point the finger at the GM and say “ what was he thinking” ?......but that’s pro sports....that what these guys sign up for, like it or not. - landros 2
A lot of people hated the signing from day one thinking he was overpaid and I really believe because of that some people weren't really going to give him a fair shake in their minds. of course that said, his play eventually warranted the criticism. He would have the occasional good game that would really make you more frustrated. I am glad to see him playing like the Weise who played in Montreal. hopefully he can keep it up. |

Anyone see the article about Weise in the Inqy? I’m troubled by his quote, "It's easy for people to pick on guys who sit on the fourth line. Especially in the media. Nobody's going to call you on it. … The reality of it is that when you play eight minutes a night, you don't get much of a chance to score offensively. and you really don't have a big impact on the game. So to be calling out those guys as the problem is kind of ridiculous." We all saw that the guy just wasn’t performing well, but his attitude seems to be that he wasn’t given much of an opportunity to perform. I know it’s on the player to go out and “execute”, but his comment makes me think that Hakstol didn’t handle him well. The recent taxi cab confessions have given us all a little peak inside the psyche of NHL players. I can see things from Weise’s POV. Given a nice contract and pumped up by the GM about the great opportunity he’ll have with the team. For whatever reason (can’t find chemistry with teammates, slow start, poor play) he can’t really get it going. The coach is dissatisfied with him, he gets less ice time and benched. Weise is frustrated. He sees a college coach that really hasn’t earned NHL cred and starts to feel like this hack doesn’t know what he’s doing and isn’t putting me in a position to succeed. He feels he’s in a no win situation. He tunes out the coach. Weise is demoralized which effects his play. The coach sees a guy who has tuned him out and isn’t performing and stops playing him. Maybe getting waived was the best thing for him. He and the coach sort of got to start over? - Dkos
It's the way of sports. If it came from Giroux, Ghost or Simmonds then it would be telling us how it is, but it's Weise. The bottom players will always get the most hate, whether deserving or not. The bigger the star or the more hype a player gets to become a good player, the more leeway they get for mistakes and bad play. While the others get dissected for every little thing they do, even though others do the same. |

My issue with Wiese isn't that he is a forth liner, it was he was invisible on the ice.
Before he came to the Flyers he would atleast engage in some physical play.
This year's Weise is what i have been expecting since he signed. If he was playing for the Flyers, since the day he signed here, like he is this year I don't think a there would be many critics of his. |

I didn’t like the term....but he really didn’t do anything to win me over, either...but if he continues to play this way on a frequent basis, I think he can help this team....he’ll maybe even BiggE will come around. |

It was a good article, but some of it, hell most of it, is still on Weise. I think you have a guy coming into town armed with a brand new 9+ million, 4 year deal and he just expected to be a 3rd line winger playing 12-14 minutes a night. Yeah he got suspended, but suck it up. He basically did nothing for 2 full seasons and he really is fortunate that he's not riding buses in the minors right now. I'm glad he's finally earning his paycheck but I don't feel sorry for him in the least.
Look what Scott Laughton did with 9 minutes in the last game. Don't give me it's hard to make an impact playing 8 minutes a night on the 4th line. There's a 123 guys playing on the 4th line in the NHL right now and I doubt they are all going around feeling sorry for themselves. And if they are, here's a (frank)ing reality check for them: There are hundreds of guys playing in the minors who would give their left nut to be in their skates. Every single one of them would be thrilled to have a chance to skate on an NHL team's 4th line, earn NHL money and travel NHL style.
Shut your trap and play, Dale. |

While that may suck, he's an adult getting paid 2.35 million to play professional hockey, not a kid playing peewee. Suck it up.

It made me chuckle a little, l still remember one of my coach’s constantly telling me ....”fight through it kid”....every time I complained about a call.....a player on the other team...a team mate who (frank)ed up....it was always the same response....” fight through it kid”.
He was right. You can only control one thing. Yourself.

Oh, he played himself out of a job and into the Cote Suite, no question.
And I'm sure he's feeling like the coach unfairly buried him a little, but I don't necessarily agree with that. |

On a complete side note, since you brought it up.....it's been fun watching Scott Laughton play well in these first 16 or so games.

Its a garbage move but i think booing Manning opening night a few years back was more ignorant and indicative of the "fans" lack of awareness and knowledge of the game |

My criticism of Weise came from when he was scratch for a significant period of time and he got a chance to play again, he was lifeless and without any fire on the ice. That appearance of a lack of heart or whatever is something that I won't tolerate. If it was me, Weise would've never played again for the Flyers. Based on his recent play, that would've been a poor decision. The question I have is what was the difference or the problem? Seems like a different player.

there have been lots of 4th liners in hockey that fans love to root for
and at what point do they address the rotten pk, hurting the team for how many years running |
