If the Leafs route the Bruins tomorrow, be it debated that the Leafs should be declared the best team in the league with Matthews and Nylander healthy.
With vintage Freddy between the pipes, Rielly at the helm at D, and Mitch and JT looking they could be a top duo considered among the best right now.
I say yes. |

By my standards? what am i, Yvon of the Yukon?
Im from below the 49th parallel, im basically American.. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Yeah. You've said many times that anything below Orillia counts as "Southern Ontario".
Also, (frank) you and the Gull for getting that Yvon of the Yukon song stuck in my head. |

They looked it tonight at least. I was fortunate enough to be there. Pretty much a full team effort, with Freddie leading the way. My bold pregame prediction was Johnsson would score. I win dinner after for that one.
Now tomorrow night will be more of a test. Go Leafs Go. |

Orillia, the birthplace of amazing ppl. Gordon Lightfoot, and me..
I spent so much of my childhood near Gravenhurst and the land is really different between the two place. Its Canadian Shield in G-hole and thats where the culture changes a bit.. But true Northern Ontario is North of North Bay. Muskoka/Ottawa Valley/Algonquin Park i consider central Ontario. |

I thought he would score for sure tonight. Just the way he was getting chances.
As for tomorrow i think the only thing the Leafs could maybe point to as a disadvantage is that its back-to-back on the road. But if Sparks plays well and Rask continues to be a (frank)ing disaster (lol), there's nothing to worry about. There's so many little factors at play right now and i think the players are responding. These guys want to win and they want to show they can play in big roles. Kadri thinks he's a 1C playing 3C, so he's foaming at the mouth to impress at 2C. 5G in 7GP...
Rielly is 100% a 1D and this core is better than they're perceived. They're settling in nicely. Ozhiganov and Zaits have been lights out. Gards is looking calm. Freddy wants to be considered a bona fide top 5 goalie and wants to be on the Leafs "Mount Rushmore" when they decided to do that someday.
Marner and JT are π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯. They're both better than any players some teams have. So when Matthews and Willy are back how could you say that this team is an underdog to anyone? |

Hainsey? He does have more points than that Erik Karlsson guy after all.
I must add, that is one sentence I never thought I would hear.

Karlsson turned down 88 million. Ouch.
It's pretty obvious that ankle injury did him in. |

Love your optimism and take on things. Iβm optimistic with a side of caution. So many good pieces. Rielly is growing into a #1 (though I still see him make some defensive mistakes, but they arenβt egregious); Gards is better than most give him credit for (he makes a lot of great little plays that donβt get noticed and then makes the egregious mistake and looks like a deer caught in headlights and that is all some remember - but he is making less of them). Oz is coming along - it is his first year on the small ice playing a faster game, he is still learning. Dermott is steadily getting more confident and has all the tools to be good. Z is at least better than last year. Hainsey does worry me, his age seems to have been really catching up with him since the last 1/3 of last season - good on the P.K. but becoming a liability otherwise. So I agree better D than given credit for; with a couple of exciting prospects who hopefully can add to it in a year or two.
They are a fun team to watch. It will be a roller coaster at times for sure - like the section each game when they stop moving their feet and get beaten on every puck battle (the goal against last night for example - a guy beats them 1 on 3 in the corner for the puck, gets it
Out front and they all watch the puck and not the guy in the slot who is then open and going to be the one to score. They shoot themselves in the foot like that too often). Still they are becoming one of the best teams around. Despite having had some issues they are 11-5.
Time to enjoy them. Hard I know as we all have some PTSD when it comes to that with so many previous disappointments.

Hainsey is aging but I think he gets a bad rap, people look at his CF% etc for games and forget to see in a game like last night where he played 10mins 5v5 vs 1 of the best wingers in the game and their top line....and Dermott who i think's coming along nicely didn't play a shift against Hall. Hainsey seems to usually be in a good position and that helps make up for his speed. JMO |
