Yikes, not a smart move by Evgeni Marchand.
Prob sitting a game or 2 for that one.
In other news, hell of a game though - Thornton22
i love malkin, and from time to time ill even deal with some of his idiotic discipline penalties because at least hes one of the few guys on the team with a pulse that visibly hates losing.
however, im not a hypocrite either. i dont like those kinds of clearly avoidable headshots. he should sit a game or two.

I'm a little jealous, feels like there is more hate between the Pens and Caps then against the Flyers

Not premeditated like some of theirs on our guys however. I mean Oshie was coming to hit him on the play...just popped him a good one. Head shot 5 and a game is enough for a player with no history of running around ala Tim Wilson. |

Agreed, he has heart but has lapses in judgement when frustrated, though a frustrated Malkin is also a very effective player..... when not doing what just happened. He plays best when walking the line.

I've found an agitated or frustrated Malkin is less effective one, at least against the Flyers. |

the unfortunate thing is that with no malkin or brassard for their obvious respective reasons, you really only have a legitimate shot at scoring if crobsy is out there right now.
everyone is playing inspired swarm the puck hockey right now which is good to see, but the talent just isnt there with guys like simon, hagelin, cullen, aston reese, rust, ect. to generate the own scoring. |

thats one narrative that still kills me. even in the infamous series that was rightfully coots' coming out party, he still had 8 points in six games.
honestly, the only thing worse than a totally off the handle malkin is an apathetic one, and thats when he is downright terrible. |

guentzel has been having a rough go of it lately. i love hornqvist, but when it comes to consistently generating his own chances, he most certainly is.
as far as kessel, he seems to be out there more often with crosby for the last few shifts so thats why i didnt include him. love me some phil. |

8 points in six games...how many of those points are lumped in the wins? |

I find that's more like Crosby than Malkin though.
A frustrated Crosby is often only slightly better on the ice then on the bench, maybe that's only against the Bruins.
Not bashing Crosby, but if he gets hit hard n often early in a game, he is all but neutered in many cases... Malkin often the opposite.

thats a tough variable to isolate though. that correlation would be strong for a lot of players relative to that qualifier. |

Punched in the mouth by Chara after taking the broken jaw protection off will tilt the best of us. |

If Chara REALLY punched him he would stay be laying there, it was a light jab at best.
Lets not start this.
Oshie back, which is good news for Malkin, likely saved him a 1 game suspension. |

was just thinking that haha. NHL logic. again, doesnt excuse malkin making contact like that, but it was shoulder not elbow with oshie leaning forward as well. sold the hell out of it. |

It is tough to see unless you go back to the games, I personally remember Malkin being more contained and less focused when the rough stuff starts. This is what I found from that series:
Game 1 (L) - 0 points -1 / 0 PIM
Game 2 (L) - 2 points -4 / 0 PIM
Game 3 (L) - 2 points +1 / 0 PIM
Game 4 (W) - 3 points +4 / 2 PIM
Game 5 (L) - 0 points 0 / 4 PIM
Game 6 (L) - 1 point -1 / 0 PIM |

To be fair a shoulder pad to the chin from a man that size is going to hurt, a lot.
And of course he scores!
