If that's the standard you want to use but I'd rather use logic. This is more of the same of overrating Provorov such as signing him to an 8+M a year contract. - MJL
That was a good laugh when 90% of Flyerzbuzz was clamoring he will at least be getting 8M per

If the Flyers feel he is a cornerstone of the team for the future, that 64M over 8 is still likely. Personally I would love to see a bridge deal worth 6.5M or less per. If Nylander could ask for 8M, there is no question Provorov could.

They can feel he is that and still not have to pay 8M per, I think he would sign 6.5 for 6. Not many guys sign a $64M contract off their entry level (he is not Mcdavid). Nylander is the outlier playing hardball.

I agree. I don't see paying 8M/Yr for him at this point. I hate to say it, but the last few games in recent memory he tends to make a couple of glaring cross ice passes that are intercepted and taken straight to our net. Major mental errors. I know that he is better than that. When he stops those, then he should talk about 8M/Yr.

I am not Provorov nor his agent, but if he signs a 4-6 year extension for 6.5M or less I am thrilled. If either the Flyers or Provorov want a long term extension that goes into his UFA years, it will cost more without question. According to the Flyers history they don't tend to do that so we will see.

Last few games make me wonder if a new contract is a possible reason for his struggles, maybe trying too hard to force plays and making mistakes because of it.

Possibly. His first two years - outstanding. This year - somethings not right. Although I don't worry too much. He'll snap out of it and be outstanding soon enough.

I think he's played well the last few games and starting to round into form. First 6 games or so I thought he was terrible for his standards.

Again, I'm not really disagreeing with you, but that's not what the voters look at.
Go back the past 20 Norris winners, and I think you'll find that they all got top PP minutes. - jmatchett383
I’m also not disagreeing with you but I have faith things will change one day. I wanna give an example of the last time outside of Lidstrom who was truly deserving.
During 2009-10 season we had Chris Pronger. Pronger had one of his top 3 career years in Philadelphia. Around Christmas of that season, I had a feeling this guy was deserving of a Norris nomination. So I did what I did at that time and looked up the top ten in defensive stats. Plus/minus, ice time leaders, shot blocking and points. Duncan Keith was leading or top five in all of these half way through that season. He won the Norris that season and the nhl needs to get back to this.

He may have been top 5 in those categories but he also had 69 points, you can't just leave that out. Provorov will most likely never have a 60 point season without PP1 time thus making it very difficult to win a Norris. In the past 8-10 years what was the lowest point total for a winner?

Nobody left out that Keith had 69 points. I very much included points in my post...

Haha thought you were looking at D exclusive categories but my point still holds true. Doughty won with 51 points and other than that past 8 years you needed 60+ (excluding Subban lockout year)

Any player can ask for anything. You see where Nylander currently is.

Do you think that Keith would have won if he only had 45 points instead of 69? A 24-point swing may have passed that trophy onto Mike Green.
