I think comparisons of Provorov winding up equal to all time greats is a little premature. You didn't even use the term equal, you said he could eclipse Howe. - MJL
Yes, he could eclipse him. He could also eclipse Bobby Orr. He most likely won't, but he has more of a shot to do so than most defenseman do.

Could was the operative word there. He "could".
He has loads of talent and he seems to really want it.

He's the real deal, yes, a true #1. But unless he gets top PP time, which doesn't seem to be happening any time soon, he won't get on the voters' minds enough to be in the discussion. Hell, he led the (frank)ing league in goals by a dman last year, was the backbone of the defense, played the most minutes against the toughest competition, and didn't even get as many votes for the Norris as one of his teammates did. - jmatchett383
I think the need to be on the first unit of the PP to be considered is untrue. Erik Karlsson. Is he a bonafied number one defender? He’s flashy. He puts up a lot of points. Yes he’s on the top PP every season. Is he a good defenseman? Not really. Mike Green also has had nominations with the same knock on him as Karlsson.
My point. Who are the three best of the best, more balanced defensemen in the league today? All situations. In the top five in every defensive Category?

Karlsson is a great Dman. Problem is the Norris is determined by points. 40 EVSTR points isnt going to cut it. Unfortunately defensive play isnt the biggest contributing factor to winning it. It is whom ever gets the most points on D. Ghost is sooner to win it than Provorov

I don’t think Ghost will ever win it. Ghost is a career -12. His career high in a season is a -21. He’s leading the defense as a -7 right now. He rarely sees PK time. Ghost can’t even get much love for an All-Star game vote.

If that's the standard you want to use but I'd rather use logic. This is more of the same of overrating Provorov such as signing him to an 8+M a year contract.

Again, I'm not really disagreeing with you, but that's not what the voters look at.
Go back the past 20 Norris winners, and I think you'll find that they all got top PP minutes.

I'm not using any standard, I'm just quoting what he said. He said "could", not "will."
