The Sabres moved out O'Reilly and brought in 3 players making about a million more total than 1 player.

They would have had to fill those spots with either 2 rookie deals like Nylander and Asplund. Or found some vets.

They would have been able to afford Skinner with ROR this year but they wouldn't have made the move if they plan on keeping Skinner past this year.

The team certainly wouldn't be where they are in the standings if they were using random players in place of Sobotka and Berglund IMO.

- Stripes77

Because Sobotka and Berglund have made such impressive contributions so far? Tell me how? I could find 30 other vets in the league who can do what they could. And if keeping ROR and adding Skinner was possible - I don't get into all the GM salary keep stuff but with the expiring contracts like Pomminville's I believe it is with a bit of work - I think we would have been in a BETTER place in the standings.

Well, look at the Blues and where they are in the standings.

Look at what happened in Colorado when they shipped out ROR, now look what's happening in Buffalo and now where he is in St Louis.

Once, twice, three times a charm

BOOM

Also find me those 30 NHL vets that could do what they do, find their salary and let me know, better yet let Botts know because I know he was looking to improve the depth this team had as well.

Don't tell me there are no such things as problem players in the locker room.

Certain players just don't mesh well especially if they are supposed to be in a leadership role.

It isn't a coincidence that Colorado is one of the better teams in the league after they moved ROR and Duchene.

As many of you want to defend ROR he was an issue in the locker room here. It might not be as bad as some make it out to be but there was a clear lack of identity from this team. It's pretty coincidental that once he was dealt and Jack was named captain that they're playing a lot more relaxed.

Sobotka has 2 points (1G, 1A) for his $3.5M.
Berglund has 4 (2G, 2A) for his $3.85.

I don't need to work to list 30 vets who I can combine for 6 points for 7.35 million. Any you know that, too. poop, Ben Street at $750,000 does it alone, for christ sakes.

I don't see how it's even a debate whether these guys are pulling their value, much less exceeding it, or whether they are mere plug and play vets.

Then why didn't Botts go get him?

They're also playing on the 3rd and 4th lines, grinding it out. But Narrative right?

I'd like to see them score more, that is for certain.
Grinding it out is fine and wearing players down is great, but you got to pot a few if you want to win consistently.

So would I

One is playing with Girgensons and Larsson don't forget that.

20 points might look underachieving for the salary but they are doing more than scoring

Last year the Sabres 3rd and 4th lines got scored on almost at will.

I threw the idea around with their fans, their sentiment seems to be that RNH is off-limits, but they would love to have Risto. Okposo's contract is bad, but Sekera's offsets the cap-hit. Puljujarvi is really struggling to crack the team consistently, and it seems like his value is at an all-time low.
Of course it looks lopsided, but Risto has big time value around the league, and he is a right-shot d-man who logs heavy minutes. Plus this is Chiarelli we're dealing with

Good point.

Haven't they all been fired for a reason though?

Ruff- about to tank
Rolston- bad coach, wore garden gloves
Nolan- tried to ruin mceichel
Bylsma- terrible people skills

Rex - terrible coach

Phil- I'm not a fan, but 6 different defenseman have scored this season.
We're in a playoff spot on November 6th

You can debate it all you want but there’s no guarantee that Skinner is here without being able to move out O’Reilly’s deal.

Plus, this team is just better without him playing 20 minutes.

It’s going to get even better playing Dahlin in Risto’s role.

- sbroads24

Guarantee?
Of course not
But what is actually guaranteed?
That’s a BS cop out & u know it

Common freaking sense says that Botts would make that Sheary trade AND that Skinner trade,
regardless of who was or wasn’t still here
Cap moves could always be made
And there was no rush to move O’Reilly

Also, with Mittelstadt here this season,
THERE’S NO GUARANTEE that O’Reilly would continue playing 20min a night
You even said on here MANY MANY times that Mitts would take some minutes from him

Your hate for the guy is just freaking bonkers

Anyone with eyes can see that ROR would add more to our top6 than Berglund did,
or that Sobatka is attempting

Sorry for interrupting whatever player u happen to be slamming tonight
I’ll let u get back to it
