I think it's exactly that, Matthews, Marner, and Tavares. They're all ahead of him on the depth chart, and he doesn't want to be the ugly duckling. Right now, he's slated as the 3C on that team because he has 2 superstars blocking him. So, he wants to get locked in so that he doesn't get short changed.

Granted, if the Flyers were to trade for/sign him, there'd have to be a caveat to talk to him first to work out a deal. But if he came here, where he isn't as blocked, I think he'd come down on the hit.

- jmatchett383

Maybe I’m reading this wrong but Nylander is a winger. Kadri is the third line center in Toronto.

Not like trading Simmonds at all.

- SuperSchennBros

No its not because Simmonds in not as good as he appears. Getting rid of Giroux and Voracek toakes 2 80+ players out of the line up. Whos going to make up that production? No one any time soon. Konecny is at least a year away from 60 points if not this year.

There is so much unwarranted blame on Simmonds screeming for his trade. He’s not scoring enough. Not skilled enough. He should be more physical. He should fight. What the hell happen to Radko Gudas?Gudas is playing OK but an absolute shell of his former self, if not a disappointment in the physicality department. Simmonds doesn’t fight because nobody wants a piece of him. Simmonds will fight Derek Engelland or Kevin Bieksa to a stand still, meanwhile Gudas would get tuned by both those guys. If the jawing back abs forth with Getzlaf the other night wasn’t an indication of this and the scrums in the crease doesn’t show you this, I don’t know what else to tell you. Simmonds is an asset that seriously intimates.
- SuperSchennBros

Have you actually watched the games this year? Gudas has been great so far. Simmonds has been completely invisible, only becoming visible for the wrong reasons for his pathetic defensive play and when he puts home an easy tap in goal. His toughness would be missed but then again he hasn’t had any fights yet this year to get the guys motivated. Once Morin is on the team that toughness will be easily recovered.

Well he was a top 6 winger (1RW) and played 1C when Matthews was injured last year.

I just think it is more of a situation that both sides value each other differently. When you have a player you don't want to lose, you hand them a blank check...Nylander is not one of those players.

Yes. They could be, they could not be. I didn't bring my crystal ball with me, though, so I can't say for sure.

He's played RW in Toronto because of their center glut, but he's a natural center.

I think I left it in my ice palace next to my robe and wand. I'll try to get back there next week if I can get a ride from my invisible dragon.

It’s February. We’re in a playoff position. Where should all the trade Simmonds talk be?
- SuperSchennBros

Still there. I would be less inclined to take prospects or picks in that scenario

Hey, if he wants 8 years at $8M no matter what because he thinks he deserves it, he can have fun playing in Sweden. But I think he doesn't want to get lost in the shuffle in Toronto and hurt his future earnings.

Thats counter productive. It just sets us back further.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Maybe, but setting us back further from what, 1st round playoff losses? I can't say we're anywhere near a cup and I don't see that changing in the next couple years with guys.

Playoff position or no playoff position, if they are not re-signing him they need to trade him. End of story.

I would take Nylander all day. The fear among many including myself is that he benefitted from playing with Matthews but I think if you dig deeper he has always had the skill to excel on his own.

I would love to know what Toronto is really asking in value for him, not speculation, but the real value.

I wouldn't give him 8 years at $8M, personally.

How many people are going to be happy seeing the team miss the playoffs 5 years straight? People couldnt even handle 0.500 hockey through 10 games

So you can’t trade Voracek and Giroux’s 80 points (even though Giroux had major down years before his his 100 point season) but you can trade Schenn and Simmonds away, even though Simmonds and Schenn were the goal scorers?

If it were February and the Flyers were in playoff position I would still trade Simmonds because they could get someone in return who helps the team 5v5. Simmonds for Fiala straight up would be something I'd love to see the Flyers pull off .

Off-topic a bit, but say Patrick has a 55-60 point season this year and next...do you pay him 64 million?
