Simmonds in irreplaceable. I mean look at all that grit behind those unforced turnovers. He doesn't back down from anyone in what is now a nearly fightless league and will break his and on any helmet. And don't forget his name being on the cup year after year.

I never thought I would be saying this but Dale Weise has actually been playing pretty well so far this season. I still feel like he shouldn't be on the 3rd line though and the way he is playing right now makes him a very effective 4th liner. I'd really like to see Aube-Kubel get some time on the 3rd line. I was impressed with his forechecking in the last game against the Ducks and I think him and Simmonds on a line together would be able to dominate play behind the net with the cycle game. |

Weise and Lehtera are playing for their NHL careers, and they know it.

Okay. Taking out injuries, he was out leading GOAL SCORER in 4 out of 6 seasons. That is not "every season."
I get your point, but your leading premise was an incorrect statement. - jmatchett383
Okay, so counting up all the goals in the last seven years, puck thrown into net, who has had the most? |

Exactly Wiese and Lehtera have both had good seasons. I dont mind them on the 4th line but I dont want to pay them more than 1 mill |

You don't agree with what? - Doctor DOOM
They intimidation is overrated. For anyone to say this, never played hockey. You could have possibly played hockey if you don’t think intimation doesn’t give you an edge over other teams.

I agree and its nice to see Weise playing with some urgency and grit in his game. The thing is when Weise is playing this way he's actually a perfect 4th line player I just don't know why its taken him so long to play this way for this team. I'm still kinda meh on Lehtera though he has okay hockey sense but his lack of speed is something I can't get past, Weise can at least skate. Whenever JVR is back I'd keep Weal at 3C, scratch Lehtera and roll with Laughton as 4c with Weise and Aube-Kubel on his wings. |

I'm just tired of people laud him for grit and leadership when fighting is so few and far between in today's game and I can't laud anyone's leadership on this team in the post Pronger era. Same issues year after year. Going nowhere in the playoffs.
Someone is going to offer him a long term and big cap hit. It just wouldn't be me. |

Wayne Simmonds. Over his 7-year tenure here, the top 3 Flyers goal scorers are:
Simmonds - 180
Giroux - 164
Voracek - 136
Why do you ask? |

I really dont think Simmonds is that intimidating to other teams.
When was the last time he had a momentum changing hit or really dominated a shift physically?
He's not a prototypical power forward in my eyes. Kind of a hybrid guy. Nothing wrong with that, but the man can't do poop to create plays on his own for the most part. |

Why would GMs outside of Edmonton offer him long term and cap hit if he has a bunch of useless, outdated attributes? Seems like there would be little interest in such a usless player. |

Depending on how the new PP units pan out for the rest of the season I would look into trading Simmonds too. Simmonds is a good player but his main role on this Flyers team has been as the front net PP guy on unit 1. If Patrick or JVR end up taking that away from him I think trading him for a better 5v5 player would be a smart move to make. |

Every player has their strengths and weaknesses. There will always be a team with its best player and it’s worse. Every player has a role. If you are looking for a team without turnovers, I bet you to telling me who this team is.
The Flyers have 9 million free in cap space right now, today. The Flyers have an opportunity to completely revamp their bottom nine next season. Lehtera is a UFA. Raffl I wanna day is a UFA. Laughton is restricted. We can budget what comes in next whether we sign Simmonds or not. Voracek and Giroux might be past their prime. Both guys are far away from also being useless. Konecny and Patrick aren’t there yet. JvR is hurt right now long term. So what are we hanging on to, that says we will win Cup within the next couple years? |

Meh, I get it - he's your boy. All good.
I just would rather trade him and get back something of value instead of giving a nice sized contract to a guy likely to decline. A guy that has for the most part been pretty meh in puck/transition skill.
Regarding Anaheim, lets see him bring it for the next few. For one of the "leaders" he was one of the worst players to start the season. Outplayed 5 on 5 by Weise and Lehtera imo. |

Yes. Over the course of 7 seasons, Wayne Simmonds has been their leading goal scorer. I haven't said otherwise.
However, his is not "our leading goal scorer every season."
Some seasons he is, some seasons he is not. |

Do you have a source? He never picks a favorite and sticks with them....never.
The smart move is to sign a long extension. It worked well for Ottawa and Bobby Ryan. |
