There is so much unwarranted blame on Simmonds screeming for his trade. He’s not scoring enough. Not skilled enough. He should be more physical. He should fight. What the hell happen to Radko Gudas?Gudas is playing OK but an absolute shell of his former self, if not a disappointment in the physicality department. Simmonds doesn’t fight because nobody wants a piece of him. Simmonds will fight Derek Engelland or Kevin Bieksa to a stand still, meanwhile Gudas would get tuned by both those guys. If the jawing back abs forth with Getzlaf the other night wasn’t an indication of this and the scrums in the crease doesn’t show you this, I don’t know what else to tell you. Simmonds is an asset that seriously intimates.

I think the only stamp on this team Hakstol has made in terms of making this team reliant was putting Couturier and Giroux together. I worked. Both players had careers together. At the time, it’s a year later, things change, so most coaches need to learn to roll with the changes.

Yesterday I brought up Ken Hitchcock and the instant impact he brought on to this team. The perfect example is Keith Primeau. Primeau was a clear second line center but for the good of the team agreed to demote himself to a third line checking center and thrived. We need a coach to get this group of at least one player to buy in and get them to do what Primeau once did. The problem is, think Hakstol only comes up with an idea and beats it to death, never coming up with anything as brilliant.

Gudas has a reputation for hitting. He was never known as a fighter - other than Simmonds being the only fighter on team I don't understand the point?

He was also the captain of the team (I believe) and wanted to lead by example. He was placed on the 3rd line because Hitch didn't think Primeau had it anymore. When the playoffs came Primeau led by example and proved Hitch wrong. He was a beast and by far the best player on the ice.

Man, that’s some revisionist history right there.

Best third line center in the NHL boys!!!

Did Primeau have it in the 2003-04 playoffs in the same role he was placed in and seeing an All-Star Game. In the 2002-03 season Primeau had 19 goals and 27 assists in 80 games. The following season (03-04) Primeau has an injury riddled season (Holik) around the same time as Roenick. Keith Primeau was pretty good no matter what role he was placed in.

Simmonds is our leading goal scorer every season, including right now. He’s also intimidating to opposing players.

Screw it. I’m on the bandwagon now. Trade him!

Pretty sure Handzus was the 3C, if we're speaking of 03/04. Roenick was 1C, Primeau was 2C, sometimes a 2A/2B when Zhamnov came on.

Outside of that 03/04 run, he was far from "a beast" and definitely was "by far the best player on the ice."

Amonte-Zhamnov-Roenick
LeClair-Handzus-Recchi
Gagne-Primeau-Kapanen

Primeau saw little no PP time and killed penalties. Keith Primeau checked top lines. Everyone knows this. Primeau only moved up in the line up centering Gagne abs Roenick as his play got better as we moved further into the post season.

Simmonds is my favorite player, I've been watching him since he was on the Kings. I would hate to see him go but I understand why people would want to trade him. His value is high and would get a decent return. Signing a 30+ power forward to a long term contract probably isn't in the best interest of the team. Fighting/intimidation is overrated and doesn't win you games.

Last season was Giroux. Simmonds has been the leading scorer 4 out of his 7 seasons here (13/14-16/17). But no, he is not our leading goal scorer every season.

I said GOAL SCORER!

Simmonds was also hurt a lot last season and also managed 24 goals, which is pretty damn good and pretty damn consistent.
