Seriously, how do you get these stupid things to work on this site. Damn tags never work for me

you have to use the embed link for youtube videos like that. code-embed link-code

also make sure to reduce the size by typing new length/width numbers into the text boxes of the embed link. otherwise you will break the page.

Not sure what point you're trying to make. That was 6+ years ago. It's acceptable to you that this team hasn't won a playoff series since then?
- hereticpride

I'm trying to say Giroux isn't the problem. He's clutch, and he's a proven PO performer/warrior.

What they have around him is the problem.

Jake I can't really make as strong a case for, but his underlying metrics are bananas, and there's nobody on this team (well maybe Ghost) who can transition and create offense like he can. He's prone to brain fartiness, but w/e.

Not what I'm saying.
If you are going to trade him we need to replace those 85 points.

- opeth_pa

The players the Flyers received in the trade are...good question.

Maybe the Flyers can get a top 4...maybe Trouba.

Maybe the Flyers get...maybe Panarin.

Maybe the Flyers get...a solid 3C and defenseman who make the team better defensively that turns into more offensive production.

The whole replace X production from a previous year is silly because that player still has to replace that production anyway. If the team as a whole scores more or gets scored on less and that translates into wins...that is all that matters. I am not worried about fantasy stats.

OK so its actually worse, it is 26 points EVSTR. Fact is Flyers dont need Simmonds. Simmonds is just another Hartnell. Other players on the team make him better than he is.

His EVSTR points puts him equal to Chris Stewart and Martin Erat. Is that what you consider a 2nd line player? EDIT: Its one more Point than Steve Downie

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

There are many different kinds of players in the NHL. Some can create offense and set other up, some are like Simmonds. Who needs to play on a line with players who he can form chemistry with. Flyers have 3 players who can truly create. Giroux, Voracek and Gostisbehere. Some teams have even fewer.

There are 30 teams in the league. If you finish in the top 60 among RW's, that's 2nd line.

My problem is not suggesting that it might be wise to explore a trade of Simmonds. That makes sense on many levels. It's the nonsense that Simmonds is not a good 5 on 5 player and that we don't need him. As if this team is lighting up the score board and doesn't need a consistent 25-30 goal scorer.

"just another Hartnell" is some high praise, imo. Hartnell was a fantastic Flyer!

Hartnell was a big factor in the teams turnaround from last overall.

Just like every other player, their past never dictates how they will perform in the future. The question of whether to trade or re-sign Simmonds has nothing to do what he will do this year, but what will he do 3 or 4 years from now.

Obviously he wasn't perfect, but to invoke his name as if he weren't one of the better players in recent franchise history is ridiculous to me. He was a solid member of three big scoring lines in his tenure, one of which just so happened to fuel the team to the finals.

I'm sure it was Ville Leino who was propping him up

It wasn't the only thing that said that was ridiculous. Hartnell had his share of brain cramps but he brought it every game and produced. I wish we had that player today. Just might help. Maybe!

I see you had the Simmonds case handled. I just couldn't let this Hartnell slander fly, though. I had to step out of retirement.

Yep, we don't need a consistent 25-30 goal scorer. Embarrassment of riches in the Flyers lineup.
