Golbourne’s not a bad call up at all. Western teams are hitting teams...we need some push back.

Regardless, I predict Flyers end the road trip 1-2-1, to which Hextall will declare, “We did some good things on the road trip, and the effort was there.”

Translation: I’m not firing the coach, and no trades will occur. Live with it.”

- BroadSTmayhem

At this point, as much as it pains me and it does, I hope they go 0-4-0 on this trip, for no other reason than to force Hextall to make a coaching change.

Well with all due respect, I think “your way” deserves to be questioned.

- flyer_nutter

If they even adhered to that philosophy you could question their methods. The vets rarely sit. Well maybe is hard two sit that many guys at one time during the game.

By halfway through yesterday’s debacle Keenan would have benched at least half a dozen players even it meant the other 12 played 25-30 minutes each.

Agreed. It seems it's the only way anything is going to get done.

I don't think either one of the guys that were called up is going to supplant a Top 6 guy. If these two players can't handle whatever bottom 6 duties they are going to get, then maybe they've been overestimated.

It's the easiest, quickest move that Hextall could make and I'm fine with it....for now. Especially since Hextall seems so hesitant to fire Hakstol right now.

If this doesn't help at least point them in the right direction, I'm interested to see if he goes the trade route or if he decides to finally just blow out Hakstol.

- johndewar

That's really my whole point. I don't think it's fair to these players. If they're both capable of handling bottom 6 duties, why aren't they already here? I'm fine with it to a point because they have to do something. I'm just not expecting much.

I think this is pretty spot on. It puts NAK in a very similar situation to Vorobyev. Vorobyev wasn't THE problem with this team, however because of this move (and no other moves made), these kids will be looked at by many fans as the "solution".

If you are Hakstol right now, they better be part of your solution somehow because you gotta believe you're on a short lease.

- mikel33

Think about it. What coach who thinks he is on a short leash is going to put his fate on unproven AHL players?

He's not ready. Along with Myers, Voro, etc.

I'm sorry, but if on a club winding down its rebuild you cant add one (frank)ing new kid into the lineup this season- and have them play some meaningful minutes your development strategy needs to be questioned.

- flyer_nutter

They've already done that.

Yeah, injuries and poor play give them this opportunity, and I hope that they give it all they got. But it is not on them to save the team/game/season.

Just landed on first leg back out to Cali to work Blizzcon.

How did the Eagles look and Ghoul plus Nak called up?

Yeah. Giroux and Voracek plus the rest of the core can’t wait for Ghoul to throw a big hit. It will be the shot of adrenaline they need during this road trip to start playing the right way.

A snot and balls call up by Hextall. Snot mixes really well with the glue guys they already have on the fourth line.

I for one can’t wait for the next game. It will probably be the most exciting game of the year. Fast paced with many thrilling scoring opportunities. A display of skill the likes of which you won’t see anywhere else.

I hope Goul somehow turns his game around and generates scoring chances along with the grit he brings. Otherwise this move is completely futile.

Good for NAK. Let’s hope he can capitalize on the opportunity

This call up smells of desperation to me. The Flyers are struggling to find anything resembling consistency and playing in system on the blue line. They are paying every time they are in the box. So they call up a forward, who has a decent two-way game, and a player who draws a lot of bad penalties. And they are rumored to NOT be shopping for defensive help (which they passed on multiple times over the summer) but for another under-performing goaltender?????

Sending down Vorobyev was a good idea. Hopefully he will get the message. What the Flyers have had on ice is the same ridiculously talented but frustratingly inconsistent player who underwhelmed while generating highlights in LV. He needs to step up, or he will be back in Russia soon.

And I have been the most unapologetic Hextall supporter, but this is EXACTLY the kind of hockey a lot of people predicted from this roster. My question for Hexy is will you still be around in 2020 or 2021 when the blue line you are building internally finally dresses in Philly?

I think Sending down Vorobyev was a good idea, too. At the start of training camp, I know a few were calling for him to be sent down just for him to get top line minutes for a bit more development, but he blew the doors off, you had to keep him up. I agree at this point, the NHL is probably a bit too high of a level for him to thrive — not the best place for him to develop IMO. I disagree about stepping up (or at least I think he’s done that to an extent). I think he’s shown a fair bit last season and at training camp to think something is there in his game that is NHL level.

I do think development occurs in the NHL, but that player must be able to handle the pace to do so. He looked decent at times, but he also looked like poop at times, too. I don’t know if he was given a long enough leash but it is what it is now

"Snot and balls" aimed callup in Goul and, with NAK, they would like to see him play a Raffl-type game.

the eagles were very close to being the same eagles from last week's 4th quarter eagles

they need a RB that doesn't suck

I've been saying this team has needed snot for years. Just a real mucus-y player is what's between them and the promised Land(getting out of the 1st round)

The greener the snot guy the better.

How many games did Ghoul play last year? He is still a certain shade of green.

The chemistry between ghoul and Lehterä/weise is going to be electric.

Leier's gear was packed separately from the phantoms last night and hes a healthy scratch today. Seems odd. Surprised there hasnt been trade speculation.

de Haan (4 years was too much term. PLEASE!), could have made a deal for Karlsson, but didn't follow up (because TERM). They could have signed others but those were do-able and within reach.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that Provorov looks off his game? He seems either nicked, or tired.

NAK can play two-way hockey, at least at the AHL level.

If you are going to "develop" at teh NHL level,, you have to show up every night. If he was struggling but playing hard in all three zones (Lindblom, Sanheim) I would be criticizing this move.
