The "Core" that will likely be competing for multiple cups in about 2-3 years will be centered around Patrick, Provy, Ghost, Sanheim, Myers, TK and any of the prospects that rise to the top as well. They need two of their top 6 prospects to hit, but they have a lot of guys who have legit potential to fill those roles (Frost, JOB, Farabee, and to a lesser extent Ratcliffe and Allison).
Couts will be in the bottom years of his prime, Giroux and Jake will be complementary players.
You also need one of the goalie prospects to pan out into a legit starter, but he doesn't have to be an absolute stud, although that would be wonderful
LOL because I said anywhere I don't like fans talking.
I would have preferred that they went with one of the younger kids in net and Elliot. I would have preferred Varlemov over Elliot.
The only way I see Bob making sense is if you plan on singing him, if that becomes an option, and then trading him again in 2 years because Hart has delivered on his promise. - opeth_pa
one of the younger kids who havent proved anything, thats a recipe for disaster. Also thats not improving the goaltending; you hope it does is all.
Many here trust what Ronald is doing so clearly he doesn't think much of Lyon or stolarz either as an nhl caliber answer at this point imo.

disagree as don't see this team competing for a cup in the next 2 years at all.
What I can't seem to figure out in year 4 of Hakstol...
We can probably all agree that now in year 4 the players are no longer in the process of learning what Hak wants from them on breakouts, backchecking, o-zone, d-zone, etc...
I think Hextall needs to come to a conclusion about what is the biggest cause for the lack of consistency this team has shown and act to improve it asap. Not wait it out another season. To me these are the general possibilities:
*The talent on the roster simply isn't good enough to execute what any coach wants from them and be successful.
*The way Hakstol is teaching/practicing is unclear and/or the responsibilities that he wants the players to have are unclear/too complex, causing players to be indecisive and hesitant in many situations and leading to defensive lapses and an overall appearance of a lack of team speed often.
*The players do have a full understanding of what Hakstol wants them doing on the ice, and his system is either inappropriate for this roster or inappropriate period.
*The team lacks confidence in the goaltending behind them, and this is the primary cause of inconsistent play from the skaters this season in particular. You can't play your game the way you're supposed to if in the back of your mind you don't feel you can count on your goalie if an odd-man rush goes the other way after you take a risk for example.
Its not that they didnt address it, they lost out in FA. Their options chose elsewhere. Misha may not be ready but he is no worse than Fillpula...... - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Which FA center do you know for a fact that the Flyers targeted?
I don't believe we touched on the fact that Hak gave the team off on Sunday. The Devils win was important but still some things to correct. No travel between Sat and Mon games so they had a day to continue to make adjustments. Instead, they get day off and come out flat on Monday. Now I see they are practicing today and Wednesday ahead of Boston.
Could that be the simple reason why we see them as a different team from game to game?

I would say it deserves a look until you remember that this coming out flat has been an ongoing problem throughout multiple coaches. The only constant has been the leadership group.

A clearly aggravated Hakstol addressed that last night and how they're trying different approaches to get the team to respond and come out ready for games.

Hard to argue with that. This group could badly use a guy like Pronger or Timonen in the room.
Not that it is an excuse because the Flyers are capable of playing better, but we do realize that the Avalanche are good, right? It isn't like they lost to the Coyotes at home again
