You need to temper your expectations, just a wee bit, it's only 7 games.

uhm..8 games , i have no expectations , just whole lotta hope

tough test tonight , the Caps could run it up if we are not careful , but a nice measuring stick game to see how the boys look against the reigning champs

I still can't figure out how the Caps won the Cup, last season.
They only have 2 players that are of the small variety, in Djoos and Walker, the rest of the team is fairly good sized men.
It must just be an anomaly.

There are basically three ingredients needed to get a Cup.

1 - Timely goaltending which they got from Holtby. Wasn't exceptional all the time but made saves when needed.

2 - Norris Trophy quality Dman. No maybe Carlson isn't the Doughty/Hedman category but he played like one with almost a 70 pt season last year.

3 - Rolling 4 lines w/contributions. People here knock on Beagle but he was a pretty big part of that cup team amongst others. Timely goals from all 4 lines is key in a deep run in the PO's.

Plus their stars OvenChicken and Oshie...Backstrom and a few more didn't disappear come PO time like many star players do.

Basically they just had all the ingredients come together at the right time for them.

Much like us in 2011 we just didn't get the timely saves or the Norris trophy effort in the SCF. It is what it is.

Had some of those away games had a key save and not a melt down, things would've been different. Oh well.

I know it was 'Lou's' team but one has to wonder if Schneider got that start in GM 6 in Boston or even GM 7 in Van for that matter how things may have been different. I bet AV loses sleep over it still lol

2-0 Caps, Marky keeps it close.
- 1970vintage

5-1 Washington. Markstrom lets in the first shot, 3-1 in the 3rd then Caps score 2..

Put that in the book, because I could give a crap if I'm wrong.

you gotta have sutter sized balls to sit lou coming off a shutout in game 5.

what if schneider doesn't 'cramp' up in game 6 vs chicago and wins the series? he would have been the starter the rest of the way.

4-1 caps

Pettersson skates but won't play and Travis Green elects to go back to Anders Nilsson in net. And Jay Beagle gets his Stanley Cup ring!

Also true.

But after Lou's performance in GM 6 of the SCF one could have made the argument for Schneider starting GM 7 regardless of how good Lou was at home in GM 5.

I hear you on sitting Lou but he was horrible on Boston in GMs 3-4. Could have made an argument for Schneider there as well but you are right would have been pretty tough not to go with Lou in GM 6 after that GM 5 SO.
