These are the same people who swear Marleau is wicked amazing at 39 and a steal at 6 million a year. But Pietrangelo at 29, he's done.
- Unholy_Goalie

He's got 1 more year left...I don't recall anyone ever calling him "wicked amazing"

But go on..............................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm guessing he puts Kadri at a similar level?
- Scabeh

I'm just (frank)ing with him....

I like watching him waste his time writing novels on here that most don't read.

shea weber who has played like 20 games in past couple years. Everything is fine
- senstroll

He played 20 games last year.

Still recovering from the same injury.

Calling Weber injury prone is just silly... he got hurt badly ONCE in his entire career.

Everything is fine indeed.

UG don't be silly.

Remember Shea Weber? The man was completely finished the second he got traded to the Habs at 31 years old.

Pietrangelo is on the brink of self-destruction!!!!

Oh and he just had triplets, guy must have close to zero minutes of sleep per night.

- Scabeh

I found a picture of Weber captaining the team

I know he's a polarizing fella.

But sometimes he brings valid points and I feel like you guys dismiss him too soon because of all the other stuff that makes no sense.

It would be fine if he could see 2 sides of some arguments ONCE....but c'est la vie.

This doesn't come as a surprise. My farts are more of a presence in the Habs' dressing room than Pacioretty ever was.

Darling starting conditioning stint, guessing he'll be back with the Canes soon. McElhinney back on waivers?
- TheMussel

Mcbackup has played good so far. So not sure about that

Pietrangelo isn't your run of the mill, bottom pairing D. He's consistently among the best RHD. He's not going to fall off the map at 30. I'm saying he's Lidstrom who will still dominate at 40, but to say that if the Leafs acquired him tomorrow for Nylander that he'd start to decline is asinine.
- Unholy_Goalie

Its not controversial to say players start to decline at around 28 (production wise) we have decades of data to prove that.

I just wouldnt bet on a deal where the Leafs give up the 22 year old 1st line talent for the 29 year old D working out in their favor overall.

In fact, its exactly what the Leafs have tried over the last 30 years...(frank) that

What the hell were you doing in the Habs dressing room?

Or is it that.... you finally saw the light and decided to join us in Habs Land?!?

On that note- signing Marleau for nothing but cap space? Worst thing the Leafs ever did. To old to ever help!

Trading a 22 year old top line winger with back-to-back 61 point seasons and borderline elite underlying stats for a soon-to-be 29 year old, with 1 year left on his contract? Brilliant! Can't go wrong!

It's really easy to tear apart too:

1. Nylander is not a trade asset right now, not until he's signed; nobody wants the headache.

- gravyface

He will sign eventually. That's just a matter of time.

2. Nylander would not fetch a #1 RHD. Maybe a Faulk (not a #1 RHD), but not a Trouba. Not a knock against Nylander, but #1 RHDs are rare, expensive commodities.

Yes he would as the central piece of the deal. If a spare part or two needs to be added, it'd still be worth it. He's more valuable than Faulk and Trouba.

3. His darling Pietrangelo made a couple of Gardiner gaffs on Saturday night; nobody here said anything, because we didn't score. Confirmation biases are deadly around here.

Doughty made mistakes against the Leafs too. Is he poop too now? Reality is, every player makes mistakes. Some just make a lot less than others and some make a lot more good plays than bad ones. Pietrangelo has been one of those guys for awhile now. Confirmation bias is exactly your problem with Nylander right now.

4. Losing an offensive weapon like Nylander makes us a two-line threat; lots of teams have two-line threats, so if we want 3 lines that can score, we need Nylander.

No it doesn't. Nylander would be with Matthews on the 1st line anyway. The lines would be almost exactly the same with Kapanen moving down to the 3rd line to play with Kadri. The Leafs have been a "2 line" team so far this season and still scoring like crazy. Nylander would simply be surplus.

5. Adding a #1 RHD maybe improves us defensively (marginally, very marginally), but weakens us offensively (assuming Nylander goes), so now we're moving towards a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none model?

Not even (frank)ing close to a "marginal" improvement. They have an old, slow Hainsey as their #1 D most nights. Zaitsev gets scored on almost 2 goals a game. The Leafs right side is (frank)ing atrocious. Stop pretending like adding a legit top pair RHD wouldn't improve the team.

Cap space that the Leafs would be better off with right now than an actual old player.

Obviously wouldn't acquire Pietrangelo without discussing an extension first, same idea as with Karlsson but with a different name.

Number of cups by either team: 0

So far, it's pretty even.
