Agreed. Gudas and Laughton have both been very pleasant surprises for the Flyers this season. - BiggE
I think Laughton's #1 issue has always been confidence. The organization giving him mixed messages about what his role should be, is he a center, is he a wing, is he an offensive player, a defensive player?
He knows what is required of him now on the ice, and I give Hak credit for this.

He was always a scorer before he got to philly....hopefully he’s just starting to figure it out. He’s been great.

I think it’s part of the maturation process of a young player, but to me it’s obvious the organization wanted him to become a defensive minded forward when they sent him down after a full season in the AHL. He got no pp time while down there and played on lines with no skill despite the fact that he was outscoring the majority of the remaining roster.
I actually think Laughton could/can be more than he’s used. I don't think he was given a real shot at 3C, last year or in preseason. It’s almost as if they forced a player into a box without looking at what he might else he might be able to offer.

The only time he put up big numbers was in his overage junior year. He was never a BAD scorer in juniors/AHL, but he wasn't known as a really huge offensive player. It was more his 2-way game that made him a first rounder.
Are we talking about Scott Laughton, the guy who put up 56 points in 49 games in his D+1 year and 87 in 54 games the next year? - jmatchett383
Yes I looked it up from wiki, and I looked at the wrong stat. But I posted anyway. My mistake on that

Um no....he put up points as an 18 year old.....he then played two years after in which he put up 70 plus points in 50 games or so.
When He was taken in the OHL draft he was a top scorer in the MTHL. I’m not saying he was a super star....but the kid always seemed to lead his team in scoring. He always played a solid two way game, but he always was able to score.

Me too.....but my point is he was a scoring forward in the OHL.

I think he definitely has the talent to be a solid 3rd line Center....it’s really up to him to where he takes it.
Good win by the Flyers. Team defense was much better. Now only if they can find some consistency and play like this every game.
On the Phantoms, Rubstov scores two and Meyers and Friedman get goals.
Lyon with 40 plus saves.
Hoping Hart starts today and bounces back from Friday’s game.

Laughton deserves all the credit. He’s moving his feet. He’s creating opportunities for himself. If he wasn’t doing this, Laughton would still be a fourth line player receiving low minutes. It’s not hard to standout within this crop of bottom six players. Coaching has nothing to do with it.

He cracked 60 points one time in the OHL, which was as an overager. Yes, he was a big scorer in the MTHL. However, he never led his OHL team in scoring, even as a 20-year-old.
Again, not saying he was a bad scorer, but he wasn't some offensive star, either. His biggest asset was his 200-foot game in juniors, which is a big reason why he captained the WJC team.
Good win, but the PK has got to get better. How? I have no idea when your using basically the same personel and system with Lappy. It was stated in offseason as a priority yet all Hextall did was nothing to help.

What happened Friday? Seems like we’re hearing botbso great things to Hart’s start in the A
Thanks jmatch! I really miss the days where 2 guys could have at it. By trying to remove fighting, they’ve increased the cheap shots.
Oh well, that’s a debate for another day. I’ll just enjoy the video and say THANKS!!👍

Was great seeing Evander Kane take on heavyweight champ Anders Lee and then bodyslam him into the ice after Lee lost his helmet. Then again, Lee definitely wanted the fight, I just don't agree with the Mick Vukota-esque bodyslam.
I also don't think that 2 equals "lots." - jmatchett383

A cheap shot is what instigated the fight. Boivin is lucky Brown was willing to bail his dumb ass out for a dangerous play. Boivin is much larger than Domi and could have just pinned him and worked for the puck, but instead pushed him down knowing he would slam into the boards.
Boivin should have obliged Domi. Brown should have let Boivin get beat, Boivin earned it on that play.

Yeah, a cheap shot when when Domi brought a two hander down on Rousell. Domi got exactly what he deserved.
Hak on Sanheim/Gudas: "They’ve been a real solid staple for us. We want that to continue. We need a little bit better play out of some of the other guys back there, but that’s not the reason to increase and change the role of guys that are going pretty well.”
