Yea people female doged about it in Pittsburgh too, but we never really tried it. I actually liked our 2nd PP last year with 2 D men, granted they usually only got about 15 seconds a penatly. would have liked to see Shultz and letang on the first PP unit for a couple PP shifts, just to see what it looked like.
- joecool2931

Who do you take off the PP for that second defenseman though? Not Phil who was the top PP point producer in the league last season. Not Malkin who’s half wall one timer is probably the single best weapon we have on the PP. Not Sid cus, you know, best player of this generation and what not. The most expendable guy on the PP is Hornqvist, but he does a really important job in front of the net, so you can really only trade him in for a guy who’ll go do the exact same thing, not an additional blue liner.

I thought the Leafs had more quality chances than the Pens. The Pens definitely controlled a portion of the game, but overall I thought the leafs were better.

Murray was the real x-factor.

Again, the Pens played a good game, but IMO not a great game. Maybe I’m nitpicking.

Goalies are non-factors, are as power plays. Get with the times, grandpa!

Love these bullpoop arguments... especially when it was basically a 1-0 game for most of the game.

You guys generated many QUALITY scoring chances and didn't score. That's your problem, not the refs.

Yea i would take off hornquist. And I agree his job is important, but sometimes when he is netfront, he really isn't doing all that much, because hee doesn't move it is easy to keep track of him, d-men can easity switch when the puck is rotating.

Imagine this, start 87,71,81,58,3 gain zone do their thing for 30 sec, when puck gets cleared adn we start back up the ice, as maatta is trailing, just quick change to Horn, so a completely different look. Just somsething different. and I know they were great last year, but hornquist is definitely an interchangeable part.

Completely agree with your PP1-analysis (and its not just a Pens problem/luxury).

While Cullen did have a better game Sprong had his worse showing.

He seems to tire so quickly. He had 2 chances to clear the zone on that nightmare shift and was too tired to lift the puck. It looked like he had chains on.

I still haven't looked up (and only have one game tonight, than as you all a big Saturday and a little Sunday), but it feels more like 100... - at least all the Leafs auto-adders also got dry yesterday.

I agree that Hornqvist's limitations present issues on the PP, but the guy I think you need to sub him out for if you want to do that is Guentzel who excels with stick plays around the net and doesn't come with the puck carrying deficiencies that Hornqvist does that regularly breaks apart PP chances.

But the Pen's PP also has a track record of drying up when Hornqvist is out with injury. Could be random variance, but the Occam's Razor conclusion is that Horny does way more good than harm on the PP and the inevitable PP's that he blows up is just something that you have to deal with to reap the great rewards.

Geeeeeze I didnt realize there was another 4 days off now zzzzzz

You kinda want another game soon after a solid performance like that last night IMO. Keep the momentum going.

I guess you simply put a list of 100 players on your gf's/wife's/Mu's table and let her choose 20 of them?

Some solid play in front of Murray. The D were staying with their man, boxing out and tying up sticks. Definitely Riikolas best reg season game. JJ played well too.
- Thorny87

Really? I thought JJ was awful last night. He missed the man in front of the net a handful of times and Murray bailed him out. He fumbled the puck at the blue line to keep the puck in a few times and he made some bad passes across the blue line to try and get the puck to his d partner when he could have just taken a shot on net because no one was in the lane. Aside from is destruction of Hyman, I thought he looked like dog poop.

That could probably be said of every one of the defenders last night.

I guess playing well is relative to his other games. I remember him tying up his man on multiple occasions in front of the net. He and Riikola handled a dangerous net front scrum really well. Baby steps. He didn't make any glaring errors that I can remember.

Are you still keeping pace a bit? There have been some shutouts this week and it seems like everyone's scores are down. The leafs getting shutout really effects things as almost every person has Reilly and Matthews.

Oh I agree. I’m not a fan of the Pens d Corp at all. I think they made bad decisions with the oleksiak and jj signings. I think they had a chance to improve their d Corp and they got worse so that’ll probably be a theme for the season of my analysis of the defensemen on the Pens. It’ll be an every game thing. They just aren’t skilled with the puck.

Last week i have also seen two guys winning with an unchanged roster ... we will still apply a 50pts unchanged-lucky-punch-tax on your results though.
