Not really. Pretty even game, leafs poor at first and picked it up for the second half. Pens got a softy from Freddy and two ENs. Hardly the blowout you describe. - lumlums
I didn't see a lot of replays on it but it looked like it was deflected off of Hainsey's stick.

Game could have easily gone either way before the empty netter. Pretty potent offence, down by one goal...better keep watching till the very end.
But, in saying that...I just didn't have the feeling they would tie it up.

yeah well, it was a pretty tight game imo... - 21peter
Yeah but Pittsburgh played better. They played like a team that's won 3 Cups in the past 10 years. They played like you'd hope the Leafs learn to play one day soon.
Babcock is saying it right now, when you play good teams, there's no room. The Leafs have been playing wide open hockey for most of the season and Pittsburgh gave them a challenge that the Leafs are going to run into when the games matter. It's a learning experience. They lost because they got outplayed by a better team, not because the referees are trying to screw them.
Didn't say they got blown out. Good luck finding where I did though. - Unholy_Goalie
Didn't use the word blowout, but described it pretty well though:
Pens outplayed the Leafs in every zone. Skated way better without the puck, maintained sustained pressure, gave the Leafs no time to build speed or make plays. The Leafs got outplayed. Simple. - Unholy_Goalie

Pens were on the right side of the puck most of the night, but even at that, Leafs showed what they can do on a number of shifts. If they catch a break, different game.

Pretty much. Murray was quite good. Could have easily been a 2-1 win for the Leafs too. Anderson was good aswell, Leafs got outplayed pretty badly in the first and Anderson kept it close by only letting the one in and gave them a chance to win.

What he also could've said; you need your best players to shine when you're up against the best teams... well they didn't today - possibly the whole difference.

Murray definitely played good, especially considering he's coming off back-to-back games where he allowed 5 goals against and a concussion. That guy, if he already hadn't proved it before, is very capable of dialing in and be in the zone under pressure.
That being said, the Pens put so much pressure on the Leafs most dangerous players, they were always shooting from less than ideal spots and on their back foot for a lot of the night. Sullivan coached the poop out of Babcock tonight it seems. The Pens were really well prepared.

Tavares aside, the Leafs best players are still young and learning how to play the way they need to when they're up against tough competition, in meaningful games. It just comes with time. That's why the whole "winning 7-6" poop works in October but not in May or June.

Yes...vet presence. Pens played a strategic game, and didn't change their game plan. Leafs will get there too. I mentioned to my pops "Watching the Pens right now, You wonder how they've lost any games".
They were definitely up to playing the Leafers tonight. Leafs will learn...and burn the Pens next game.
Well, after 4 or 5 really good shifts by the Leafs, Babs decides to pull the goalie while Pitts has possession and there is 2:30 to go. Way too early. Mistake. Pitts got away with a lot of little trips that game too. My 2 cents...
