I was HUGE in saying i was upset about Tage (dumb name too, lol) being the young piece we got back

Only 6 games though
So I’m not giving up on him yet
I do think it’s dumb putting him on a “defensive” line though

Either play him with Jack or Mitts,
or send him down

And he’s got this great shot supposedly...
let’s try to work it to him on PP2,
like we do with Jack on PP1

At least try to put the kid on a position where he can be successful

Rob Ray's producer: *holds up a book* "Rob, what's a sheet of paper in a book called?"

Ray: "a page"

Producer: "So if we swapped a 'P' for a 'T,' how do we pronounce Thompson's first name?"

Ray: "Taig"

Producer: "let's try again"

I think Berglund has absolutely sucked so far.

I also don't judge a guy with 170 goals in 600 something games off of a 6 game sample on a new team

- sbroads24

I judge players on current status, not past accomplishments.

Burgland needs to hit the press box. If phil has to make it media friendly by saying, "hes dinged up" .

They both know it's based on poor play.

I just read an article that he was defensively responsible in the Bruins 4-0. 4 assists by Marchant

2 goals by McKinnon
3 points by marchsault.

All his fault. Also blaming housley for using him wrong.

He was a winger in st. Louis with pp time.

Not lock down defensive center

Yet it’s crystal clear when talking about Berglund.

Logical

- sbroads24

Well i guess you’ve got me there
However,
i do continue to notice u aren’t countering ANY of the points I’m making about why i think Berglund was a bad fit for us

Also noticed u didn’t accept the bet i threw out there

Who was a #1 center?
- RhinoFan

McDavid, Giroux, Malkin, Mackinnon, Kopitar, Crosby, Stamkos, Barzal, Tavaras, Kuznetsov, Senguin, Barkov, Couterier, Marchessault, Backstrum, Draistl, Rackell, Bergeron, Matthews, ECHL, Pavelski, Monahan, Matthews, Couture, Schiefle, Johannson, Hischer. I'm sure there are many more. I would take all these guys over ROR, for one reason or another, most of them it's not even close.

I was for not trading Ryan, but you're right. Not a #1 center.

Well I’ve seen ppl on here saying that StL could’ve moved Berglund to another team

So we should’ve said ok to that

Sobatka they might not have been able to
So while i also don’t like him,
at least we only had 2years of his deal left

- jdfitz77

There's absolutely no way of knowing this. Like 0% chance anyone knows that they could have found a decent deal for him. I'm fine with Berglund for now, and like I said it helps the kids stay down where they blelong just like Botts time in Pitt suggests he likes to do.

Top of the line #2 center at least though
But i didn’t mean to spark another ROR debate

Just think bringing in an average player,
who is under contract for 4yrs,
and then playing him in the wrong role,
is freaking dumb

And it also bothers me that he doesn’t fit into the team speed that Botts keeps talking about

If Berglund was for 1 or 2years,
then ok... i guess

But I’d still rather have not had him at all

Not at least. That's exactly what he'll top out at. At least means he's got a chance to move up. Call him what he is, a good/great #2 center. There's nothing wrong with that

You keep mentioning plus minus as an indicator of talent. Let me ask:

Do you see Vlad Tarasenko, Mathew Barzal, Alex Pietrangelo or Leon Draisaitl as bad players too? They have the same or worse +/- right now. All players playing top line, top minutes and top power play.

Oh and the two players you identified as playing well (Jack and Sheary) are -6 and -5.

Yeah... but it’s FOUR YEARS

And we have kids that look ready
Or we could’ve signed a UFA or 2 to a 1 year deal
Pouliot is still out there, right?

That's not what I'm saying. What I am saying is there should've been 2 separate deals, 1 for O'Rielly and 1 deal to take on the craptracts of Bergy and Svbotka.

St. Louis would be in bad shape if they still had the two dinosaurs with those two craptracts which was more than what Ryan was being paid. But, instead they shed more than $7.5 mil AND open up two spots for younger, faster, cheaper players.

- MLew65

This is the second time you mentioned this.
Very simple math here:
Berglund 3.85m + Sobotka 3.5m < oreilly 7.5m
They also have to fill that one other spot with cap dollars (not two).

I fully get that. And have said that it will not look great in 2 years. I also don't think that overdeveloping some of the young guys is such a bad idea though. I look at Jake Guentzel as the guide as how Botts likes to have guys develop. Berglund may end up as a buyout at the end, but I think for right now he'll do the job just fine, while saying that as of now he hasn't. But 6 games is a little premature for me. I actually think you don't mind the first couple of years having the "average" Berglund here, it's the final two that grinds your gears? If so, then I can understand this more.
