Leipsic did sputter but do we need to watch Granlund do his thing all year or utilize Leipsic's speed somehow? Eriksson looks slower as well. Speed dude. We need it.
I'm not saying Leipsic is an all star but he does create open space for line mates with speed. LE and Granlund seem to be going through the motions.

- LordHumungous

When he's on his game his speed can create some havoc as it can be a pain to contain. Helps on forecheck, backcheck.

I think the issue for him is that when he's off he's hurting the team because he's forcing plays and doesn't really know what he's doing. Someone on the radio called him a pond hockey player and that's a pretty fitting description of him.

I wouldn't worry too much about Granlund getting ice time now. Its early in the year. Last year Burmistrov was getting PP2 time. I bet, especially early in the year, Green is trying to set a tone and structure and really hammer it in so he'll favour guys who can do that more and then later in the year he'll experiment more once the structure becomes more second nature for the team.

Unfortunately this team is stuck with LE until they can Robidas Island him if Jimbo ever gets the balls to do it.

Perhaps one of you creative types can add all the names of Canucks that will be on the island of misfits...

As bad a camp as Gagner had he should have been given a chance in the first 5-6 games much in the way Schaller was when scratched for the first few. Leipzig should still be up here as well. Now that Marky will start the next game and reality will set in a bit Benning will realize some of the in-decisions.
- LordHumungous

I hated that they signed Gagner at all, let alone to a 3 year deal, but if we're comparing training camp performance, I think Gagner out performed Boeser. But Boeser is the future, and I would rather see Boeser play than Gagner. This whole meritocracy bs that the media is pushing is what bugs me.

yeah it is a bit silly. If it was then Gudbranson would have found himself sitting once already probably and definitely after tonight. And there isn't a chance Eriksson would have a Canadian address anymore. He literally does nothing. Dude's hands, feet and brain have all left him in the last 3 years and the Canucks deployment of him didn't help any either.

Gagner was low hanging fruit.

we started the game well (obviously). first half of the 1st period at least.

think we were gassed after that. couldnt make a pass to save our lives. 0 puck luck.

good that we held them out until late in the 3rd at least.

It’s very confusing on the radio with a Tanev on each side.

i love it. great storyline.

tanev and edler can retire as canucks. i dgaf - they deserve it. tanev probably wants to go somewhere better though

since benning came on you could almost say that every single one of our free agent signings were one year too long. i truly believe that says more about the roster/market/situation than him, however.

probably could have kept miller though tbf

eriksson is actually fine. low event but he makes the right plays. something this team absolutely needs through its transition. he'll get 50 points next year (ive had a few drinks, dont @ me. minivan can write it down though).

gudbranson is alright. calm down.

gagner was the 100% right move. total slug these days and goldy is 100% better.

we just have to let granlund find his scoring touch again. the load he carries 2 way is massive.

i wouldn't hesitate to move him however

Do you think the relationship between Canucks and Gagner is so fractured that they won’t call him up no matter what? Just thinking if you are going to play Gaudette 5 min per night what’s the point...
- 1970vintage

almost zero chance gags wears a canucks shirt again. gaudette will get more minutes the longer he spends around the team. theyve been tight games. EP is back next week anyway

Only surprise for me was that it took the Jets until the 3rd period to take the game over.

Agreed. For a rebuilding team, hanging with a premier team in the league, for 45 minutes, is a step in the right direction.
We still have a long way to go, hopefully nobody sets some unrealistic expectations, for this season...or next.

"Regression/reality hit the Canucks tonight, this style of play is clearly not a sustainable model for winning, but some young players are showing signs of improvement, and I’ll take that."

Quote From an article canucksarmy. I watched the game on fast forward x2 😁 but from what I got is Van held their own for 45 minutes. Then the eliteness of the Jets took over. In 10-11 the Canucks were the same way. You could outplay them through two but in the third you better have had a substantial lead or you were going to lose.

Van has shown a lot more progression then most would have thought.

And thanks for the congrats. Baby is sleeping like a champ already😍

Always moving their feet.

Boeser had 3 really good scoring chances. Need him to finish if they want to win more games.

What Van could use this year would be a lotto win. I dont know if the Jets would be as good without Laine.

yep

looks like we're working our way out of the cellar. probably no top 3 picks coming our way otherwise.

re laine agreed. that one special player can still make a big difference in the right environment

Jack Hughes would really help the possession time for Van. Someone who can handle the puck, weave through defenders. Van has quite a few straight forward direct players. Kirby Dach seems he could be a lesser version but with more size. Lots of interesting players in this draft. I dont want the team to suck intentionally but better chance to suck then finally winning a draft lottery

hughes would be perfect.

i feel like our foward group could definitely use another elite player, but maybe broberg?

Forward group could use another or it could round out with Dahlen and Lind. An entire year to see how those two develop before the draft. Still picking BPA at the draft.

Broberg looks good. Byram looks good. Both LHD though.
