Really? I think it doesn't say much about Kovar that not a single other NHL team was willing to cough up money to give him an NHL contract. Just speculation, but my guess is he was worried about playing time because of the AHL veteran rule. |

Why trade him when you can squeeze a little more time out of him and lose him for free? |

3 points out of 4 on the road on back to backs?
This team will only continue to get better once they master Quinn's system more.

Yeah, that is a problem. This is how you get stuck in the endless purgatory of mediocrity. |

Lucking into drafting a superstar has so much to do with teams getting better that it's stupid. I don't blame the NHL or anything, but if you suck in the wrong draft year then you were basically terrible for nothing. |

I always like the idea of the NHL awarding draft picks the other way. You should be rewarded if your team played hard all year and just missed the playoffs (ie the first loser). It would def limit teams from full on tanking. |

Very true, but that is the risk reward of doing that. |

I think the best way to do this would be to equally divide up the top draft pick into equitable portions and disburse them to the non-playoffs teams. Like every non-playoff team gets 1/15th of Jack Hughes. The team with the worst record gets to pick which part they want first and so on. |

I've made that argument before, but not many like it. A year or two after the Kings won their second cup someone criticized it by saying "In that case, the Kings, who just missed out on a playoff spot, would get the first pick in the draft!" Looks like they needed it. |

No doubt about it, I don't have a problem with the way the NHL takes care of the draft lottery...but if you suck in the wrong year it may have all been for nothing. Or at least not what you need. |

So you end with palyer like Sam Reinhart. Which isn't bad, but it's not great. |
