Question boils down to the following:

in a few years (2), Leafs will have to let go of at least one, but probably two of the following players.
which one can they miss most?

Nylander
Andersen
Kadri
Zaitsev
Dermott
- plantheparade

Out of those 5 only Dermott's contract is up in 2 years (if we are still including this year). I don't see him getting some huge raise.

Andersen is 3 years away. I think he is also being paid about what he is worth. I think any increase he gets will more then be covered by the increase in cap over the next 3 years.

Kadri and Zaitsev are well down the road, who knows what the cap will look like in 5 or 6 years. Kessel's 1.2 will be off the books by that time. Kadri will also be 32 by that time. Not old, but a lot of players start falling off at that time. Who knows what he will be worth by then also.

If they can get Nylander signed to a bridge 4 year deal. It will solve a lot of issues. Sure we may be screwed in 4 years, but who knows, a lot can happen it that time.

It would be nice to see kadri have a bigger role. Have him go up against Crosby’s line then let the rest of the lines just role out against whoever.
